Why You Absolutely Must Visit Devils Tears Nusa Lembongan Bali

As one of the most noteworthy spots on the island, Devil’s Tears Nusa Lembongan is a sensational can’t miss attraction that features some of the most intense waves we’ve ever witnessed.

Watch in awe as you soon discover the only thing more menacing then the name itself are the frightening demonstrations of the raw and unforgiving power of mother nature.

The name itself originates from the mesmerizing display of force as these enormous waves are continuously sent smashing against the rocky cove creating sudden massive ocean spray explosions, resulting in a large widespread mist aka “Devil’s Tears”, falling back into the sea.

Furthermore, if you watch close enough at the porous rock bed bellow, once the waves have finished crashing, you will witness a draining effect of the water falling back into the ocean appearing as if the rocks are literally crying.

Is Devil’s Tears Dangerous?

Although a bit daunting at first glance, in reality Devil’s Tears is relatively safe with minimal risk of catastrophe, as long as you are extremely cautious and mindful of the humongous waves crashing in a several feet beside you.

First off, although it might seem like a good idea to stand as close to the edge as physically possible, allowing you the perfect opportunity to capture that viral Instagram photo, just be aware that these waves are as we said before “unforgiving” and can quickly make you regret your decision.

We can personally attest to having witnessed several people get knocked on their backs after mindlessly posing a bit too close to the “danger zone”.

With that being said, it is very common for tourists to stand on the rocks and without subsequent injury or nearly being knocked into the dangerous seas below, however with a bit of situational awareness and caution these potential hazards can easily be avoided.

Best Time To Visit Devil's Tears Nusa Lembongan?

We decided to visit Devil’s Tears first thing in the morning to help avoid all those beloved tourists.

Although quite pleasant at this time of day, Devil’s Tears is not really a sunrise spot so no need to rush here before the comes up.

On the contrary, if you don’t quite make it here before all the tourists arrive, then be sure to stop back in when the sun goes down, as I’ve been told this is one of the premier sunset locations on Nusa Lembongan.

Where Is And How To Get To Devils Tears?

Devil’s Tears is located on the South East side of Nusa Lembongan island.

From the most northern point on Lembongan which is on the complete opposite side of the island form where Devil’s Tears is located is around a 25-minute motorbike ride.

For this reason, motorbiking from any location on Nusa Lembongan is an absolute breeze.

Pro Tip

You can rent motor bikes from your accommodation or nearby scooter rental place for anywhere between 50,000 and 70,000 IDR (Indonesian Rupia) per day.

Nonetheless, if you’ve visited Lembongan’s big brother Nusa Penida first and are a bit skeptical of the dangerous broken roads, then don’t worry as the road quality in Lembongan is nowhere near as bad and is actually quite easy to navigate on motorbike.

How To Get To Nusa Lembongan?

Nusa Lembongan is part of the three Nusa Islands including Nusa Penida and Nusa Cennigan.

All three islands are easily accessible from Bali by way of a 30-minute ferry.  Transports can be arranged from your accommodation or local travel agency for around 300 -400 IDR (Indonesian Rupiah).  This price should include both transport from your hotel and the ferry ticket.

Pro Tip

It’s best to schedule these trips a few days in advance to guarantee your spot for the trip.  This is especially true during the peak season.
