The Hindustan Tibet Road also known as The Silk Route passes through Kinnaur Valley along the bank of River Satluj and enters in Tibet at Shipki La pass, it Is one of the most dangerous roads in the world. The route from Shimla to Shipki La pass on the Indo-Tibet border is the same which the protagonists in "Seven years in Tibet" crossed to get into India.killar-kishtwar Road Map
This is a road hacked across a vertical cliff face and driving it is a spine mixed of heady exhilaration. It is the main gateway to the basecamp at Kailash Mountain 6450 Mt.The climb is simply terrible with notorius lack of oxygen that tests the and high degree of steepness. The area has more or less closed to mountaineers for political reason since 1990s. Residents of the Valley welcomed the opening of the road,as it represented a huge boost to commerce and tourism in the region whose dangerous, hard to travel terrain meant the area was cut off from tourism and other forms of economic development. The last 80 Km of road to the start of the ascent proved to be extremely scary. Word's cannot describe the road and pictures do not do justice. Some peoples had dubbed the track the "Almost Killer Road".
