The 4 Best Apps for Booking Cheap International Flights

Apps have simplified our lives so much, amiright? Where would we be without UberEats or DoorDash? Without Uber or Lyft? Some of my favorite Apps are the ones that help me do what I love most – see the world without breaking the bank!

Whether you’re a frequent flyer or a once a year traveler, my list of the best apps for booking international flights will have you living the champagne life on a beer budget. I personally use each of these apps consistently and I promise you, they’ve saved me thousands of dollars over the last year. Yes, thousands.

Enough chitchat! Here are my favorites!

1. Momondo

Knowing all of your options when booking flights is imperative. That’s where Momondo comes in. They compare travel prices across the entire internet and give you the best results available. Unlike many of the other search engines on the web, Momondo also compares Southwest, so you won’t have to research them separately. I used this app to book a flight from Atlanta to Cartagena for $291 roundtrip!

Smiling in Puerto Vallarta because I got there for $280 roundtrip!

2. Hopper

Hopper is hands down one of my favorite apps for finding cheap flights! It doesn’t just let you book flights and accommodations from your phone- It also tells you when is the best time to buy. When the winter blues were bumming me out and I felt like I needed a quick getaway, I booked a ticket from Atlanta to Cancun round-trip for $220! The best part is I booked a ticket on Wednesday for a flight that was that Sunday and this was in February- peak season. Hopper is an absolute must-have for the frequent traveler.

3. Skiplagged

If you travel often and are a pro at only packing a carry-on, then you need to download Skiplagged! Their unique algorithm shows the cheapest regular flights and hidden-city flights faster than any other site. Hidden-city flights refer to itineraries with multiple legs where the traveler exits prior to the final destination (hence needing to only pack a carry-on).

For example, I was trying to get from Newark to Atlanta one way and the cheapest ticket I could find was $287 (ridiculous right?!). So I went on Skiplagged and searched for flights- they found a hidden city itinerary from EWR (Newark) to Atlanta to Costa Rica for $156! So I booked that flight and got off in Atlanta with my bookbag and carry-on in tow. The savings are so good that if you’re a person who always checks a bag, I recommend you learn to pack light!

Lounging in LA- my ticket was $190 roundtrip!

4. Kayak

We live in a world that favors personalization, and Kayak is kick ass when it comes to catering to your preferences. Everyone chooses their flights based on landing times and departure, but did you know that you can also decide whether you want a flight with wi-fi or a flight that works with YOUR specific frequent flier miles program? That’s the kind of personalization you’ll get with Kayak. Just like everywhere else, be sure to take a peek at their deals section. There are all kinds of good things on there!

Bonus Apps for Making Traveling Easier:

Airhelp – Have you ever had a flight delayed or canceled? You may know you’re entitled to compensation from the airline, but you probably don’t know how to get it. That means you’re losing the money, right? Wrong: download Airhelp. They will file a claim on your behalf and get you paid!

Mobile Passport -Tired of rooting around in your bag dozens of times during your trip? Believe it or not, there is a passport app that you can use at many participating airports. You simply add the details directly from your passport and use it to make your way more smoothly through US Customs and Border Protection, or your cruise port. There are currently 25 airports and 2 cruise ports that have implemented the technology. Go out there and save some time!
