5 Tips on Packing 2 Weeks of Clothing in Just a Carry-On & Personal Item

Are you heading out of the country soon, but looking to avoid expensive checked bag fees? I’ve got you covered! There’s no need to spend ridiculous amounts of money to bring your beloved items with you. Thanks to PurseN, I’ve got 5 Tips on Packing 2 Weeks of Clothing in Just a Carry-On and Personal Item!

1. The Right Type of Luggage is EVERYTHING.

The last time I packed for two weeks in just a carry-on and personal item, I was using an old book bag and this rolling carry-on suitcase that had very few pockets. I can’t even begin to describe how miserable that was! My back hurt from all of the things I had shoved into my book bag and as time went on throughout my trip, my carry-on suitcase was filled to the brim because there wasn’t any place to properly store my items. That’s why I’m absolutely in love with my Pursen VIP Tote and VIP Duffel. The Vip Tote bag makes the perfect personal item because it can fit under your seat, but it’s so unbelievably roomy inside! The bag has nine (yes, nine) individual compartments to keep all of your travel essentials organized and secure. As someone who always travels with her MacBook, camera, one or two books, and her toiletries bag in her personal item this is perfect for me!

One of my favorite things about The VIP Duffel is the hidden retractable pull handle with wheels. When I’ve traveled with duffel bags in the past, having to carry them across my body always turned into such a pain. The fact that the VIP duffel has wheels for rolling it around is a complete game changer. Inside, the VIP Duffel has 11 total compartments and mesh packing bags for organizing clothing, shoes and all other travel necessities. Also the back of the VIP Tote has an elastic pocket which fits over the pull handles of the rolling VIP Duffle Bag- what’s not to love?

2. Less is More.

How many of us are guilty of packing our entire wardrobe on a trip, only to end up wearing the same two pairs of shoes, a handful of t-shirts, and two of our favorite bottoms? So often we panic and we assume we need to bring that dress “we bought months ago and haven’t had a chance to wear”. The reality is, 9 times out of 10, you won’t need it. And typically, if you do end up needing something, you can just shop for it abroad. That’s one of the luxuries of travel, purchasing a new item to replace an old one that you probably wouldn’t have stumbled across unless you were traveling.

3. Wear Your Bulkiest Items.

Since I’m visiting two countries that are already experiencing fall weather, I plan on wearing my new Zara fleece jacket with my favorite Nike hoodie underneath and my heaviest sneakers to the airport. Once on the flight I’ll use my jacket as blanket for when I get cold.

4. Compartmentalize.

I personally put my shoes in the very bottom of my bag and then put this super thin laundry bag over top of them. The laundry bag gives a nice buffer between my Clothes and shoes, but also comes in handy to store my dirty clothes. Inside of my shoes, I one or two pair of socks in them to save room. I also put all of my dressier clothes in one mesh compartment and all of my everyday clothes in another. For my dressier items, I try and pack them so they don’t get wrinkled. I also carry a wrinkle-free spray in a TSA approved sized spray bottle for when I land.

I also designate a side pocket to put my laundry bag of dirty clothes in. I keep my underwear in the top mesh compartment.

You guys know I’m obsessed with jewelry so I use PurseN’s Tiara Vacationer Jewelry Case to pack all of my earrings and necklaces. The case is super small but features 16 individual compartments with 10 built-in pockets and 6 removable pouches to organize small to large sized jewelry.

5. Fold then roll your clothes.

For those of us who’ve worked in retail in the past, you know exactly the type of folding I’m talking about! For those of you who haven’t here’s what to do: place your t-shirt facedown on a table, fold the sleeves back to form a rectangle. Once you’ve done that fold it again lengthwise and then roll it super tight. Once it’s tightly rolled, place it into your suitcase or mesh packing bag.
