A trip wouldn’t be fun if you don’t have a place to just lounge in, replenish your energy at after a long day or just take care of your necessities while in the comfort of a home in a foreign country.
During this trip I think we found our own comfort while at Cocoon Stay, which is located in Hongdae. This is going to be the perfect location if you are up for a taste of Korean-western cuisine, endless desserts, snacks, shopping, sightseeing and nights full of art, youth and music.
From here, guests like me from different countries can enjoy easy access to all that a lively and bright city like Seoul has to offer. With its convenient location, the guesthouse also offers easy access to the city’s must see destinations–I’ve gone to a couple of them; like Trick Eye Museum, Ehwa University, Yonsei University, Hongik University, Seoul Station (Old building), etc. Also, the nearest subway station exit is practically a few steps away from Cocoon Stay so it’s quiet an advantage for travelers who love taking the subway for transport. My sister and I aren’t really good with bus schedules or their number system so I got used to using this mode of transport from Cocoon Stay.
We stayed in the 6-Bed Dormitory type room which is actually for mixed genders and though that kind of makes me uncomfortable at first due to the lack of privacy, at that time we really had no choice especially since it was during Chuseok and its high time a lot of cheap hotels and guesthouses as nice as Cocoon Stay are all about to be fully-booked.
Anyway, I got used to having someone else I didn’t know in the room. I didn’t speak their language but at least I had my sister and friends to talk to so the mood wasn’t really that bad. Plus, honestly, if you want to stay comfortably I think waking up early is something you must get used to especially when using the shared bathroom or if you want to have the kitchen to yourself. I think doing just a bit of compromise and you’ll be fine if this is your first time staying at a place where you share almost everything with a stranger.
And if you’ll ask me what I love the most about our stay? Perhaps it’s the cool airconditioning? The warm comforters? The free WiFi access? The strategic location? Or maybe just all of them! But above all, I greatly appreciated the owner, Mr. Kim’s hospitality. He’s really nice and he speaks English well enough that you’ll understand him. He’s also very talkative and loves to entertain the guest with his stories about his life and family. I even found out he used to work in Makati in my country, which makes me kind of proud. Anyway, that was before he started with the lodging business.
Anyway, if you simply want the best value for your money during your stay while getting around Seoul, I recommend trying Cocoon Stay!
