Vegan Fast Food in Paris – A Short Vegan Tour

Tags: vegan food paris

Last year was a bit of a year of personal growth for us, which ended with a Vegan adventure in Paris, followed swiftly by an engagement. (Squeal, that still sounds weird!)

Following the death of a beloved pet, Mrs S (who was legit the cutest cat in the whole world) I decided to give vegetarianism a go. And here I am 8 months later still surviving, and still very much a vegetarian. So I think I can say it was a good decision.

I was partly inspired by my fiancé Ian, who had recently decided to give veganism a try. I had seen some of the foods he was eating, and that he was not really missing meat much. I’m dabbling with vegan dishes as well, but am still a bit of a dairy fiend. I’m a work in progress.

But our trip to Paris last Autumn was the first trip we took together after we made these dietary changes. I consider us foodies with big appetities, so was a tad nervous that food and eating out might be challenging. For us, food, along with all of our senses, has been a big part of our travel experience.

But also an exciting prospect to try out some new and interesting food places we wouldnt ordinarily choose.

We were only there for a weekend, so we tried to sample a range of dishes and types of food. But honestly, in terms of veganism, the fast food places just won out! I never new fast food could be so good!

Our Top Recommendations for Vegan Fast Food in Paris

Cloud Cakes

Cloud Cakes is a wonderful little, entirely vegan cafe.

We had the best grilled cheese toasties I’ve possibly ever eaten, vegan or otherwise. We even tried to replicate them once we got back home but it wasnt the same. And the salad and bowl dishes looked lovely as well (we didnt try them because hello grilled cheese toasties!)

And as you can see, I indulged in a little sugar fix as well. I opted for an Americano with soy milk, and a red velvet cupcake – which I promise you could NOT tell it was vegan. It was simply sublime!

Hank Pizza

Hank Pizza is completely vegan – and to be honest I couldnt be bothered even wait to take a photo before diving in. Hence the missing corner in the first photo.

It’s a simple concept, €5 a slice, which are a decent size for the price, and most are made with cashew cheese. The options were varied, flavoursome, and didnt taste too ‘healthy.’

Hank also has a small chain of 3 Hankburger locations, one of which we did try as well during our stay, but honestly we didn’t go too mad for their burgers. But Hank Pizza… c’est magnifique!

East Side Burgers

Now if burgers are what you’re after, East Side burgers should be on your to do list. They have a rotating range of burgers, which come vegetarian as standard, but you can ask for vegan cheese instead, so make sure you mention that when putting in your order, if you are of the vegan persuasion.

They have a small menu, which can change daily, They only serve three burger options on any given day. We went to East Side a few times and to be honest, every single burger we tried hit the dirty greasy fast food mark perfectly. Saucy, gooey, a little bit naughty but boy, were they satisfying!

Super Vegan

Now, out of all the vegan fast food joints we tried in Paris, Super Vegan might be my favourite restaurant. My Super Kebab, pictured above was nothing short of perfection. It was filled with salad, sauce, seitan, (made from wheat gluten) and was so hefty you could probably club someone over the head with it. Not that you should!

Not only was the food delicious, huge and reasonably priced, the place comes with a super hero theme, which obviously makes it ten times cooler in my nerdy eyes. And the staff were lovely. and helpful, desite our terrible French. On top of that, the food comes served in cute little baskets with newspaper – which I thought was a cute little touch, and gave it a slight nostalgic British chip shop vibe.

Honourable mentions

Although we found we did tend to stick to fast food in Paris, we did try some other places as well. These dont fit the ‘fast food’ bill but are totally worth checking out nontheless.

Hoppy Corner

Not fast food, but we went here for drinks SEVERAL times. And by several I mean every night until I had to beg Ian to try something new. The craft beer range here is great, and the staff are really knowledgeable. So if in doubt, ask if your beer is vegan!

They also serve you with a little bowl of wheat – which as a farmers daughter I loved. It gave a lovely littel throwback to my childhood, and the flavour of the wheat actually really complimented my beer. It may be a bit of an acquired taste though. Ian wasn’t a fan!

Le Faitout

Le Faitout isn’t fast food by ANY stretch of the imagination, which is why it didn’t make the ‘official’ list. Actually its probably about as far from fast food as you can get. I think the meal took far longer than we had anticipated.

But after so much fast food, I pleaded with Ian that we have a nice normal sit down meal with a glass of wine. Rather than fake cheese washed down with cola and finishing up after 15 minutes.

So we found Le Faitout, which is a restaurant which creates vegan versions of charcuterie and small plates. The waiter recommended we order a few dishes, and they all came out at random, so it felt sort of like a french vegan tapas. Thats the best way I can describe it.

The communication with our (albeit lovely) waiter was a bit confusing, so we had no idea what half the dishes were. The whole place was very French. No English speakers worked there, no English menu, and we had very limited Frnech knowledge. So we pretty much trusted the waiter to order for us, and he did not disappoint.

But we whole heartedly polished of every single thing they served us, added desert to the mix, and had a grand old time. I opted not to take any photos here though, because sometimes, a gal just wants a nice romantic meal.

More to discover?

So that was our first vegan trip away, and as it was only a little 4 day adventure I’m sure there are a whole heap of other vegan fast food joints in Paris just waiting to be discovered!

I think Paris was a great option for our first Vegan trip, as there were SO many places for us to try. We definitely didn’t get to try everything we read about. So did we miss anything incredible? Any tips for the next time we go??
