Saigon Sports Club Review – The Best Gym in Saigon 2019?

A gym membership is the best investment you’ll ever make.

But like anything, the quality of the product impacts the outcome. While you may save some money, going to a bad gym could negatively impact your fitness goals or make you less motivated. Heck it could even be damaging to your health!

And let me tell you I have experienced my fair share of sub par gyms. Consequently, I am not going to bother with shitty gyms anymore. Today I am more than willing to pay the extra money needed to workout in higher quality gyms.

For example, the last 1,5 months I’ve been working out at Saigon Sports Club. Saigon Sports Club is a large, modern gym tucked away in District 7 of Saigon. Just south of the city center. It’s not the cheapest, but it’s very good.

Strangely enough, you can’t find much information about this gym online. And that’s unfortunate since most people would like to read about a gym before deciding to purchase a membership. Hence I have decided to share the information I have, and at the same time write them an honest review (No Affiliation).

So without further ado, welcome to my Saigon Sports Club Review!

Saigon Sports Club Review

When you enter Saigon Sports Club, the first thing you’ll see is their well stocked fitness store. Here you’ll find plenty of gym and martial arts equipment, and most gear you’ll need for their classes can be purchased here. And the prices are quite reasonable, in particular for the sales items.

Locker Rooms

At the reception you’ll receive two towels (small and large) plus a locker key that can be worn around your wrist.

To open your locker, you’ll need to swipe both your own key plus an additional key from the security staff. This was a bit weird at first but I gotten used to it. And there’s always one security guy available in the locker room. Hence I never had any delays with getting my locker opened.

In addition, the locker room is clean and modern with plenty of showers that comes equipped with shampoo and soap. They even have a sauna.

Gym Area

In my opinion a great gym need to have at least the following equipment:

  • Squat Rack
  • Bench Press
  • Dumbbells
  • Deadlift area

If one or more are missing, the gym is missing a fundamental understanding how to run a fitness business and how to properly train clients. I simply wont go to such a place.

Saigon Sports Club has all of the above plus much more. For example, here you’ll be able to find:

  • Leg Press
  • Hack Squat
  • Cable Crossover
  • Decline Bench
  • And much more…

In addition there are yoga mats, stretching area, treadmills, stairmasters etc.

The equipment is modern, clean and from the same supplier. This makes the gym look well designed and coherent. Weights are plentiful with good grips which makes them easy to carry around.

So far I can’t say I miss anything here.

Crossfit Area

Next to the gym is the well equipped crossfit area. Since I am no crossfit expert, I can’t comment much on the coaches or the classes. But the coaches appears to have good credentials and the training looks professional.

The crossfit area itself is well stocked and have the following equipment:

  • Barbells and Weights
  • Squat Racks
  • Dog Sled
  • Kettlebells
  • Gymnastic rings
  • Climbing Rope
  • Boxes

This is an excellent area for certain exercises such as deadlift and squats.

Group Classes

Furthermore, Saigon Sports Club offers plenty of martial arts classes. The classes are suitable for both beginners and advanced users, and below are some of the most popular ones:

  • Brazilian jiu-jitsu
  • Muay Thai
  • Krav Maga
  • Boxing

The first time I entered the area I was pleasantly surprised. This section is huge and well equipped, and they have cages, boxing rings and plenty of bags in different shapes and forms. It’s truly a paradise for a martial arts nut like myself.

Saigon Sports Club has three boxing trainers – all from the Philippines and they speak perfect English. The classes are in a group setting and they last for about an hour. Some of the classes in the evenings and weekends are longer and run for 1,5 hours.

If you remember, a while back I wrote that group classes aren’t really my thing. But these classes are usually not attended by a lot of people. In fact, during the day the attendance can be as low as just 2 or 3 people, making them almost like private training sessions.

The boxing classes are very intense. The focus is on footwork, technique and conditioning with some occasional sparring. There are a few main exercises that are repeated every class (like jump rope, shadow boxing with weights and core) but most of them are switched around. And often the coaches introduce new and innovative exercises.

Since I do only boxing I can’t comment on the other classes. But they appear to be equally professional.

In addition to the martial arts classes, they’re also offering several other fitness classes such as yoga, crossfit, HIIT, core and conditioning.

Swimming Pool

With the membership you’ll also get access to the swimming pool. The pool is located outdoors and has plenty of sun chairs and even some hammocks. This is the perfect place to relax after a hard gym session or boxing class. Strangely enough I never found the pool area that busy. Not even on weekends.

Finally, let’s not forget about the excellent restaurant. Located next to the swimming pool, they offer a variety of healthy food and smoothies, and with the calories clearly listed.

I like the fact they taken great care replacing fast carbohydrates, such as white rice and potatoes, with more healthier options such as brown rice and sweet potatoes.

Final Thoughts

Considering the excellent amenities (gym, classes, pool, restaurant etc) and the friendly staff, there aren’t any close competitors in Saigon. In my opinion, Saigon Sports Club is the best gym in Saigon. I would even stick my neck out and say it’s one of the best gyms I have ever visited.

And I have probably visited over 50 gyms on all continents.

Truly a gem.

But I need to bring up two slight disadvantages with Saigon Sports Club:

  • First is the price. A monthly membership cost 2.2M VND which includes 10 classes per month. That makes Saigon Sports Club one of the most expensive gyms in Saigon. However, like I said earlier, I don’t mind paying for a great product, which in my opinion Saigon Sports Club is.
  • Second is the location. If you don’t live in District 7 it’s a bit of a hassle getting here. However, I actually don’t mind this fact. If the gym was located in District 1 it would be way more crowded.

In closing, if you would like to learn more about Saigon Sports Club I recommend to visit their web page at or visit them in District 7.
