Must Try Local Dishes in Milan

When I Think of Italy, I see such great resemblance to Indian culture with its wide offering of food, great history with the dominance of religion and contribution to world art. Milan isn’t just a fashion capital but also a great city to explore the famed Italian cuisine through the local food in Milan Italy.

Most people would know of pizzas and all the different kinds of kinds of pasta. But Italian cuisine has much more to offer. From creamy risottos to maize polenta and hearty stews, this region with rich culinary traditions can make for a great destination. And my favourites, of course, cheese, bread, coffee and Milan street food, that one can enjoy at any time of the day!

Here is a list of what to eat in Milan at the best restaurants in Milan when you travel to Milan Italy for the first time:

  • Risotto Alla Milanese at Ratanà

Characterized by a distinct, saffron-infused golden hue, Risotto Alla Milanese is without question an important dish to seek out in Milan for its buttery and textural perfection. Milan tourist places are chock-a-blok with eateries that serve their personal takes on Risotto, but with their extensive wine list and delectable desserts, Ratanà is as iconic as Milanese fashion!

  • Cotoletta Alla Milanese at Trattoria del Nuovo Macello

Also called Coletta, or veal cutlet that has been pan-fried in clarified butter and that the meat comes from milk-fed veal.

  • Cassoulet at Manna: A pork and Savoy cabbage stew

  • Panettone at Pasticceria Martesana

Made from eggs, butter, sugar, raisins and candied fruits, panettone is a fluffy brioche.

  • Michetti (aka “pane e salame”) at Taglio

Bread and salami is such a basic and simple dish that is cherished as an Italian mid-afternoon snack ritual around every Milan points of interest. Taglio is a charming little place with an open kitchen and a decor that is stacked with books and posters. also, they don’t charge for water so you can save that money to splurge someplace else!
