If you follow my Instagram account in the stories section (little videoclips and snaps), that’s where Ice the Dog gets centre stage. There’s even the occasion Clip of me giving him commands in Portuguese and if there’s Food Involved he’s inclined to obey. (Hey, I would obey, too, if there was food involved!)
Last week I posted a clip of me telling Ice to rola and my ‘r’ was trying to roll, too. His roll was better than mine.
Tonight I watched two clips online of foreigners living in Porto being interviewed on television, one British professor and one American writer, and listened to their Portuguese pronunciation. Granted, they’ve both been here for DECADES and probably been interviewed countless times, but they make the difficult sounds — like the aspirated R that sounds more like HR — like it’s no big deal.
Meanwhile, yesterday I said the English word office and it turned into “offish”…
