Don’t worry about being perfect in your new language. Be like Tarzan.
“Me Tarzan, you Jane” gets the message across, even if the grammar isn’t top notch perfect.
Learn a few words, put them to use immediately, see how it goes. You know, just like you learnt to speak your own native tongue. It took a while, but you didn’t sit back and wait until you had the whole thing down sweet before opening your mouth.
Nobody expects you to win the Tour de France the first time you get on a bike. No, you wobble along, fall off every so often, push the thing up hills, and you get there when you get there.
So my approach to German will be the same. I’ll use the few words I have as best I can, and if I fall flat on my face, I’ll jump back on the bike and be better next time.
