FINDING UNEXPECTED STREET ART IN SEMARANG
Who knew there was a thriving street art scene in Semarang? Prior to going, I didn't even know Semarang existed. Where exactly is Semarang? It's located in the north of Central Java in Indonesia. What brought me to this small city was Kampung Pelangi but finding unexpected street art in Semarang was an added bonus.
FINDING UNEXPECTED STREET ART IN SEMARANG
Most of the street art can be found in an area referred to as the Old City of Semarang. This area is filled with dilapidated Dutch Colonial buildings and crumbling walls offering street artists lots of opportunities to display their art. I did see a few artworks scattered elsewhere in the city so best you keep your eyes peeled. Since street art can be easily painted over by other artists' or the wall is at risk of being demolished, these exact artworks might not exist anymore.
As a fan of all things creative, I really enjoy writing posts on street art I come across on my travels. I try my best to give credit to the artists but I didn't have much luck in finding any information (despite the @tags). However, my mostly fruitless search did bring me to this Instagram account, 'Bring No Clan', featuring street art from Semarang.
As I searched for the artists, I realized I only caught a glimpse of the amazing street art in Semarang. There's a lot of talent in this small city! Have a look at the hashtags #semarangstreetart or #semaranggraffiti on Instagram and you'll discover a slew of incredible street art. If you recognize any of these artworks, please let me know and I'll gladly add the artist's name and link their social media.
Anyways, in the meantime, I hope you enjoy this condensed gallery of eclectic street art from Semarang.

When visiting the temple (entrance is free), women must enter on the left while men enter on the right. Shoes must be left outside and pictures of people (including visitors) inside the temple are forbidden. Visitors must walk clockwise and aren’t allowed to set foot in the middle (reserved for praying only) of the temple.
