5 Interactive Lockdown Activities

Please note, this post is in collaboration with Broccoli Content.

If you weren’t already aware, the UK is in the midst of it’s third (yes, third) national lockdown since the pandemic took over the on world in March 2020. They always said it would get worse before it gets better but how much worse can it get?

…And having spoken to those around me, conducting polls on my Instagram stories and getting a general ‘temperature’ check from my social media feeds, it all feels pretty miserable. I will always say, feel your feels, but don’t suffer alone. We are all in this together.

If 2020 taught us anything, it’s about the power of community. Just because we have social distancing in place, doesn’t mean we need to be socially distant. So here are five Interactive Lockdown Activities you can do from home or on your daily slot of unlimited exercise.

The Interactive Debate

Clubhouse is the newest social media app on the block. I wrote a blog post here detailing how to get the very best out of the app for networking and growing your social media following. Essentially it’s a live forum or podcast where you join ‘rooms’ on a plethora of topics.

You could be listening to Elon Musk discuss his plans for moving to space one day and arguing with someone about the correct way to make tea the next. If you were wondering, a kettle is a must in the tea making process.

The Interactive Book Club

Have you ever wanted to join a Book Club and start a podcast but never had the time to commit to either? Now there is a relatively easy way with the interactive book club – Broccoli Book Club.

In short, listeners of the Broccoli Book Club are encouraged to:
1) Read a selected novel (see the upcoming list below)
2) Send their thoughts and feelings in the form of a voice note to the Broccoli Content Team’s social channels
3) Wait until the podcast is released monthly to hear their aural feedback

Listen to the first episode here:

Upcoming Broccoli Book Club Titles Include:

  • “Afropean” by Johny Pitts
  • “Mindf*ck” by Christopher Wylie
  • “Humankind” by Rutger Bregman
  • “The Good Immigrant” by Edited by Nikesh Shukla

“After a difficult year of living isolated lives and not socialising as much as we used to, it’s exciting to create a podcast that brings people together in a digital space. Books are a place of comfort, joy and learning. Not only is reading good for improving memory and empathy, but research also shows that they can make us feel more positive too. And positivity is what the whole world needs right now. I hope that Broccoli Book Club will offer people a chance to be part of a wider community, where we read critical and interesting texts which inspire us to think beyond our daily lives and in more open-minded ways.”

I will be tuning into The Good Immigrant episode as this has been on my reading list for a while. Just because we have to socially distance, doesn’t mean we need to be socially distant. The past year has taught us that community is important whether it is built and maintained virtually or physically.

The Interactive Movie

“Teleparty (formerly Netflix Party) is a new way to watch TV with your friends online. Teleparty synchronizes video playback and adds group chat to Netflix, Disney, Hulu and HBO.”

Source.

Alternatively, put the movie on Zoom, share your screen and use WhatsApp to facilitate conversation as the plot unfolds.

The Interactive Wine Tasting

This interactive activity requires a little planning but I ensure you it is worth it. Simply:

  • Gather a small group of friends (5-6 people is the sweet spot)
  • Scour the aisle of your supermarket or off license in search of wines from around the world (don’t forget some snacks)
  • Send out a Zoom invite
  • Drink
  • Compare, contrast and be merry

The Interactive Art Class

Similar to the interactive wine tasting activity, the art class also requires some planning. I suggest picking an evening you and your virtual friends are free and picking a topic and a time limit. Within that time limit, you have to interpret the theme as you wish. At the end of the session, you have to essentially ‘show and tell’ your creation back to the audience.

Some topics of suggestion: Freedom, liberty, justice, courage

Requirements: Blank canvas, piece of paper and art materials

So there you have it, five interactive lockdown activities you can do affordably from home.

How are you staying social with all this distance?
