Musings: 5 Reasons Why I Want to Visit Canada

Oddly enough, I have yet to Visit the majestic country that is Canada. Recently my focus has been on quick weekend trips to Europe in the hopes of becoming a Eurostar but with the threat of Brexit looming, I really need to think further afield and get back on the long-haul trip life. Canada has been on my radar for a while but when deciding where to visit first it can get a little overwhelming. I mean there is Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and British Columbia just to name a few. Where exactly does one begin? I almost have to do a pros and cons list of Canada vs the UK.

The Food

Poutine is one of those dishes that’s hard to put into words but does heavenly count as an appropriate adjective?  If you’ve never heard of the dish, Wikipedia describes it as:

is a dish that includes french fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy.

Now, I’ve had some great poutine in London but I can’t imagine how good it will taste in Canada. However, it’s not to say you can’t get poutine elsewhere… Don’t get me started on my love for maple syrup either. Maple leaves are embedded on to the Canadian flag for a reason, right? Fun fact: Canada produces 85% of the world’s maple syrup.  I can imagine adding a visit to a maple syrup factory would be a fun experience and make for some unusual blog/instagram content.

The Scenery

One cannot Visit Canada without stepping foot into the rugged landscapes, beautiful lakes, mountain vistas and forests that are spread all across the country. I reckon you can wander for miles and not come across any other human, although you might make friends with a bear or two.

The Size

Canada is huge. If the six time zones don’t demonstrate this then it’s the distance it takes to travel between the major cities. It’s a place where you can fly, train or drive if you want to take the scenic route. When I go, I’d love to do a mixture of all three types as it’d give you a view of the country from different perspectives. Not only that I’d love to fulfil a secret dream of mine… fishing (don’t ask).

The People

From the likes of my favourite rapper Drake to their well liked president, Justin Trudeau, Canadians are some of the friendliest and accepting in the world. I guess it all stems from the cultural norms, environment and being accepting of other people (unlike somewhere else across the border).
