Naachiyar's – Chettinad experience in Bengaluru !

Trichy and Chennai in Tamilnadu is where I have spent the best part of my life and my food experiences there was of good non-vegetarian local and Chettinad food at the numerous hole in the wall places, also technically road side heavens ! One of my all-time favorite weekend dishes was the Kozhi Kothu Parotta which is basically minced Parotta with chicken kurma, egg and shredded chicken as well. That experience of sitting on the road side while the Parotta gets cooked in a big tawa right in front of you and the aroma that fills in the air is as mouthwatering as it could get. So when I came across Naachiyar’s in Bangalore, it was time to re-live some of those moments though there is nothing that could match to the road side effect.

Naachiyar’s is an old and small restaurant located in Ulsoor. The Ambience is simple and needs an overhaul but we were greeted with a similar aroma that could take me back in time. Got seated with a TV right above my head playing old Tamil songs which was nostalgia. I had already made up my mind on what I wanted to eat and it was obviously the Kozhi Kothu but I let my family members decide on their preferences as well. Finally, the order was placed – Bun Parotta, Vada Curry and Veg Kothu got added along with my option.

Kozhi Kothu Parotta

Service was good and the food came out in good time. They did state in advance that the Bun Parotta will take time and it was worth the wait. The Kozhi Kothu definitely satisfied my cravings and I took my own time to finish enjoying every bite. The Chicken Kurma and the raitha that’s served with the Kothu are perfect accompaniments. Mind you the Kurma spice level can be high for some, which on the contrary is how I like it.

The Bun Parotta was this nice small, fluffy, well prepared bread that with the Vada Curry was a perfect combination.

Oh, and I totally forgot the Paneer Starter that was good as well and was a good choice for the vegetarians in the group but this place is a paradise for hard core non-vegetarians. I would have loved to try the Biryani and the meals here but the Kothu itself was very filling, which means I have to visit this place again.

Overall a good place for anyone who loves Chettinad cuisine !
