With its rich history and gorgeous beaches, Cambodia is a growing destination for travelers to explore. There are so many benefits about going to the beautiful country. Everything from Phnom Penh’s culture, Siem Reap’s famous Pub Street, Sihanoukvilles beaches, Kampots nature and Ko Rongs island vibes –  the list really is endless.

Here are eight reasons why you should make Cambodia your next travel destination..

Experiencing Angkor Wat

With Angkor Wat being the biggest temple complex in the world, it’s worth exploring. Not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but people even say that one of the most beautiful sunrises is from the Angkor Wat complex. You can easily hire a guide on the day who will tell you all about the history of the temples and take you around to the most important ones. Considering there are so many, it’s worth getting the three day pass so you can spread your time out amongst them all. You’ll be very tired by the end!

It’s Very Cheap

One of best things about Cambodia is affordability. It’s so cheap to do everything there. You can travel around the country, see the sights, eat dinner and stay in a nice place for a great price. It’s still slowly being discovered by tourists which means that it’s not completely packed with foreigners like you would find in Paris or New York. The affordability lets you travel without worrying about the financial side. When beers are less than $1 USD, everything is going to be okay. Take advantage of it before it’s too late.

The History Is Powerful

One of the most important parts about visiting Cambodia is learning about the hard history that the country has been through. It was only in the 70s that the Khmer Rouge period took place, so the significance is still evident, especially in places like Phnom Penh. From the Killing Fields to the S21 Prison, Cambodia’s past isn’t something that can be ignored and it’s definitely worth familiarising yourself with on your trip. The things you learn will be heartbreaking yet powerful, and will stay with you for a long time.

It’s Easy To Travel Around

Once you get into Asia, it’s pretty easy to travel around anywhere. Cambodia is no different with transport like buses, tuk tuks, boats, central airports and multiple taxis. You can get to any city with ease and at an affordable price. Hostels and hotels usually have a tour desk where you can organise your city hopping with ease. Pick ups are from central locations and you usually get what you pay for. Sometimes it’s worth those extra few dollars for a nicer bus with air conditioning!

The Local People Are Amazing

The smiles of the Khmer people will light up your entire day. Take time to speak to them and find out a little bit about their history because it’ll make your trip that little bit more cultural. Not only are they welcoming, but they really make you feel at home and are always up for a chat or a photo opportunity. The kids are adorable and will steal your heart!

Nightlife Gets Crazy

With Cambodia being so affordable, you can party almost every night. Each city has something different to offer, whether it’s a bar, nightclub or beach party. You can find night markets, shows and streets that are busy until the early hours of the morning!

It Has Some Incredible Nature & Hidden Gems

Beaches and islands aren’t the only natural beauty in Cambodia. The country has some pretty amazing jungles and mountains that can take you out on a full day of exploring. Trekking through jungles, you can even find some beautiful hidden waterfalls where the water is so refreshing. Usually secluded, the jungle treks are an amazing way to see the natural side of Cambodia. There’s lots of hidden gems if you look hard enough!

The Beautiful Untouched Islands

Cambodia is home to some beautiful islands that are yet to be discovered. From Ko Rong to Sihanoukville, the tranquil beaches are unspoiled and usually isolated. You easily can find yourself lazing around drinking cocktails for days without getting bored by the white sand and soft waves. The beautiful constant warm weather isn’t too bad either!

The Trip Will Be An Eye Opener

In terms of wealth, Cambodia isn’t a rich country at all – it’s actually quite poor. In terms of culture, it definitely is rich! Going to Cambodia is a major eye opener. You realise that even though the people may not have money, stable jobs or all the materialistic items, they’ll be some of the happiest and kindest people that you come across in your travels. It really is an eye opener and the things you see will make you feel so lucky when you go back home. You’ll start to appreciate all the little things like flushable toilets, the roof that’s over your head and even the freedom to travel.

These are only a few of the wonderful reasons to visit Cambodia. If you’re after an authentic and cultural experience, travel to Cambodia for your next adventure – you won’t regret it!
