The best currency exchange rates in Bangkok

Holidaymakers set on visiting Thailand regularly ask me where they can get the best Exchange rates, converting their Euro’s into Thai Baht. In my experience (so far) the best deals are had by bringing cash over and converting them the old-school way at an exchange office. Let me explain where the best exchange rates are offered. Update (23/05/2017): Added an extra exchange agency.

Up until recently, I have always used Vasu Exchange on the corner of Sukhumvit and Soi 7/1, right next to Skytrain (BTS) station Nana (Sukhumvit line). When exiting the train, leave the station by using the stairs on the right-hand side (when facing the direction towards Mo Chit and where Ploen Chit is the next station) and walk back a few hundred meters. The office is pictured above.

An even better rate is offered at the main Superrich branch (mind you, not other branches). The easiest way to get there is to take the Skytrain to Chitlom station, take exit 9 , follow the sky-walkway towards the Central World mall and use this map next.

While writing this post (on May 22nd, 2017), Vasu Exchange offered 38.30 THB for EUR 1. Superrich did slightly better with 38.35 THB.

Talking to a few expats, I found out that much better rates can be found in China Town, but only for very large sums of money (which I do not have ;-))

One final tip: do not bring EUR 200 notes (not trusted in Asia), nor notes below EUR 50. Personally, I stick to EUR 50 and EUR 100 notes.

Do you know were even better rates are available? Do let me know.

Update (23/05/2017): A reader of this post was so kind as to send in another exchange agency with favorable rates that compete with Superrich and VASU Exchange: Siam Exchange. It is close to the MBK mall. A map is available here. The Skytrain station in the map is National Stadium , on the Silom Line. Thank for sending it in, Ruud.
