2022 National Park Free Days

Every year the National Park Service announces certain days of the year where they will waive all entrance fees. For 2022, those days are:

  • January 17: Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • April 16: First Day of National Park Week
  • August 4: Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act
  • September 24: National Public Lands Day
  • November 11: Veterans Day

“Whether on an entrance fee-free day or throughout the year, we encourage everyone to discover their National parks and the benefits that come from spending time outdoors,” said National Park Service Director Chuck Sams. “National parks are for everyone and we are committed to increasing access and providing opportunities for all to experience the sense of wonder, awe, and refreshment that comes with a visit to these treasured landscapes and sites.”

Keep in mind these 2022 National Park free days only waive the entrance fee and does not cover user or amenity fees (such as camping, permits, boat launches, transportation, special tours, etc….).

Also important to note is that out of the 423 national parks, only approximately 110 of them have an entrance fee. All the money from entrance fees remains in the National Park Service, and at least 80 percent stays in the park where it was collected.

If you are U.S. Military or a dependent, U.S. Military veteran, Gold Star Family you can obtain a free annual pass. If you are a U.S. citizen with a permanent disability you can obtain a free lifetime pass.
