Smart Phones

Smart Phones can be our best friend or worst enemy. Truth be told, I'd rather have a good old-fashioned slide Phone to make calls or text -- only when necessary -- and nothing else.

One thing I will never do in my job is post photos or messages on social media while on the road or in the presence of other people. I find it rude when others do that to me. Mother Nature and the great cities, towns, villages and regions in New England fully capture my attention when working as a travel writer at The presence of family and friends, as well as the people I interview take priority over the notification ding of a SmartPhone. To see everything around us instead of thinking about those unread messages allows us to live in the moment and focus on what matters most.

I don't want to miss what goes on in the world by being tethered to a SmartPhone. If a business call or text comes in, it can wait. I also don't need to show off what I am doing at the moment on social media. I always wait until I get home to post something.

Sometimes, it's worth going back to the time when neighbors connected through face-to-face interaction, or at the very least, conversations on the phone at home. It seems authentic and more meaningful.

Does anyone feel the same way I do?
