Singtam prepares for two days 208th Bhanu Jayanti Celebration

The town of Singtam is all set to celebrate a two days celebration of the birth anniversary of Bhanu Bhakta, a nepali literary legend. On July 12th, Shri PS Golay, the Chief Minister of Sikkim would unveil the new life-size copper statue of the late Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya.



The next day, Dr MK Sharma, Health Minister and Area MLA would grace the occasion as the Chief Guest while Shri Rohitraj Maharaj, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sikkim would grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour. This year's celebration is expected to bring back the old charm of the Bhanu Jayanti Celebration at Singtam.




The highlight of this year's Bhanu Jayanti celebration shall be the installation of a copper statue of the ‘Adikavi’ Bhanu Bhakta at the Bhanu Udhyan, Singtam, where the first phase of the program shall be held thereafter for the next phase of the day-long program the venue shall be at Singtam bazaar, opposite Police Station. Winners of the Ramayana path Competition, poetry competition and culture competition will display their performances on both days.



The 208th Singtam Bhanu Jayanti Celebration Committee has been coordinating for the last few months for the facelift of heritage Bhanu Udhyan at Singtam. Shri Rohitraj Maharaj, the Vice President of the Singtam Committee had been regularly visiting Bhanu Park to update the program.


Auditions were held for different competitions, on July 9th, the audition for the culture competition was held and judged by Smt. Anu Pradhan and Shri Robin Mukhia. Four finalist schools had been selected for the Inter-School culture dance competition while three groups had been selected in the open category. There were 15 participating schools and four in the open category in the dance competition.

 

On July 10, Shri Chakrapani Bhattarai and Shri Gopal Dhakal judged the Ramayan Path and the Nepali poetry competitions. The top three winners of Inter School and Open category of Ramayan Path and Nepali poetry competition would perform on both days. In the Ramayan Path; 16 schools and four in the open category participated. At the poetry competition, there were 16 students representing their respective schools while seven participated in the open category.
