The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a way to transform Dr. King’s life and teachings into community service that helps empower and strengthen local communities.
Each year the Montgomery County Executive, Mr. Isiah Leggett host the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Birthday Celebration held at The Music Center of Strathmore, in Bethesda Maryland. Our next event will be our 22nd Anniversary, and will be held on January 18, 2016, from 3:30pm-6:30pm.
This event engages thousands of residents including Montgomery County officials and local press in a multi-cultural commemoration of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This is done through the arts as well as the presentation of awards to youth and adults who personify the ideals of Dr. King.
WHAT IS THE MLK DAY OF SERVICE?
Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their communities. The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the The President’s call on all Americans to participate in our nation’s recovery and renewal by serving in our communities. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions. And because we all know that solving our problems can’t just be about serving once a year, thousands pledge to continue their service all year long.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?'” So my question to you is? On this day…What are you doing for others?
