Suddenly Single? Get Away from It All with These Solo Travel Tips

Breaking up is hard to do, there’s no doubt about that. You’ve spent the last few months or years with someone by your side, and suddenly, you’re standing alone.

But breaking up with someone you weren’t meant to be with is a positive thing in the long run. This person wasn’t right for you and was holding you back from living your life to the fullest.

So now that you’re suddenly single, it’s time to take life by the horns and go on a Trip of a lifetime!

Here are some important solo Travel tips to use so you can have a safe and incredible adventure.

Go on a Trip You’ve Always Dreamed of

Have you been dreaming of going on a cross-country road trip or exploring Europe, but your partner was holding you back?

There’s no better way to get over a relationship than to do something you wouldn’t have done while in that relationship.

Now’s your chance to go backpacking across Europe or South America. Go where you’ve always dreamed of going so you can look back on this part of your life and be proud of the trip you took.

Plan Your Itinerary

Are you flying to one place and staying there for your entire trip, or are you going to jump from state to state or country to country?

It’s important to have an itinerary set before you go, especially if you’ll be needing flights and other transportation tickets, or if you’re booking places to stay.

If you’re taking a road trip, a great app to use is RoadTrippers. You can put in your dates and destinations and it gives you estimated gas or public transportation prices.

For abroad trips, check out some of the best travel itinerary planning apps to help make it much easier to make a plan.

Set Your Traveling Budget

Traveling is expensive, and the last thing you’ll want to happen is run out of money while on your solo trip. This is why it’s super important to set a Traveling budget.

You’ll need to consider transportation costs such as flight tickets, gas prices, public transportation, etc. You’ll also want to think about where you’ll be staying and how much that’ll cost (more on that later).

Then, set aside a certain amount of money for each day to spend on food, activities, and other purchases. Add a little more money per day just to be safe.

And of course, you should have extra money saved up for emergencies because you never know what might happen while you travel.

Use Public Transportation

When you’re traveling to bigger cities, try sticking to public transportation and you’ll save a ton of money.

Don’t spend a fortune on paying for cabs, ubers, or rental cars (unless you have a fortune to spend).

Save Money on Places to Stay

If you’re taking an extended trip, you’ll need to save money on places to stay while traveling. Paying for an expensive hotel or AirBnB every night can get really expensive.

Look into Couchsurfing, hostels, or work exchange programs for free or discounted places to stay.

If you’re a female traveler, it’s important to take extra precaution to stay safe. Try to stay with other female travelers and always use your best judgment.

Pack the Essentials

Now that you’ve made your travel arrangements, it’s time to get packing! If you’re taking a long trip where you’ll be moving around a lot, consider packing as light as you can so you can get around easier.

A large backpack or duffel bag would be a great choice. Put a couple of outfits for each occasion (casual, formal, active, sleep) and your toiletries. From there, include a book or two and anything else you may need on your journey.

Have a Plan, But Be Flexible

You’re all packed and you’re on your way to your travel destination. At first, you may feel like you will definitely be sticking to your plan to a T. But once you get there, you’ll start meeting people and going on unexpected adventures.

When this happens, remember to stay flexible. Trying to stick to a plan too much could leave you missing out on some incredible experiences. Obviously, if you have plane tickets you can’t switch, you’ll need to stick to your plan a bit.

But other than that, stay as flexible as you can and enjoy the freedom of being a solo (and single) traveler! Click here if you’re looking for ways to celebrate being single while traveling.

Use Mobile Apps While Traveling

Technology has improved many facets of life, including how we travel. You can use apps like Yelp to find the best food in your area. You can use transportation apps to help you navigate throughout a country.

AirBnB, hotel apps, Couchsurfing, and more will make it easy to find last-minute places to stay if your plans suddenly change.

If you’re traveling abroad, make sure you have an app that allows you to stay in contact with family and friends. WhatsApp is a great one to use since all you’ll need is a WiFi connection to message people back home.

Make sure you have these apps downloaded before your trip so they’re ready to use when you need them!

Stay Safe

Traveling alone gives you the freedom to do anything you want. You don’t have to consider what someone else wants to do; you can just wake up and do your own thing. It also allows you to meet new people and make friends a lot easier than if you travel with others.

But traveling alone requires you to take extra precautions to stay safe. Try to stay in populated areas and stay out of bad parts of town.

If you’re lost, try asking for help from an older woman. If something doesn’t feel right, leave the area and get somewhere you feel safe.

Use common sense and your best judgment, and you’ll have a safe and trouble-free trip.
