FMF Link-up :: Done

It is such a delight to welcome my dear friend and fellow author, Katie M. Reid, to Five Minute Friday today!

If you’re new to Five Minute Friday, you can learn more about the link-up and how it works by clicking here.

I had the privilege of reading and endorsing an advance copy of Katie’s brand new book, Made Like Martha: Good News for the Woman Who Gets Things Done, and I think you’re going to love it!

Here’s my endorsement:

“Made Like Martha is the gospel for go-getters. Within these pages, Reid silences the voices that push, “Do more. Be more. Achieve more.” Those persistent taunts are covered by the glorious blanket of God’s lavish grace and unconditional love. Allow yourself to be wrapped in the reminder that you are enough because He is enough. If you’ve ever been tempted to think that your worth is affected by your work, this book is for you. Made Like Martha is an open invitation to rest secure in your identity as a beloved daughter of God because of what Christ has already done.”

Katie’s book, Made Like Martha: Good News for the Woman Who Gets Things Done, is now available!

Here’s Katie:

I was done.

I had overdone it…getting up early, staying up too late, striving to “arrive.”

As my body leaned against the cold concrete, I felt both heavy and empty at the same time. I hoped nobody would stop to talk, because I didn’t feel like I had the energy for it. When I got home, I crawled into bed; sick with sleep deprivation.

Trying to operate like a machine instead of a human, I reached my breaking point.

I am a woman who gets things done, yet sometimes in all my doing, I find myself undone. But one summer day, God opened my eyes to see the good news in a new light.

He revealed how much He loved me, not for what I do but because I am His.

Jesus sits at the right hand of God because He finished the greatest “to do” of all time. And He also resides in the home of my heart because I have invited Him in.

He is not company to impress but family to enjoy.

On the cross, Jesus uttered, “It is finished.” And He meant it.

Because of what He has done, I can rest within, knowing that I don’t have to strive to be more pleasing to Him. God is pleased with Christ’s complete and total sacrifice.

I am made like Martha, wired to work hard and serve those around me, but I don’t have to strive to get it all done. I can serve from a place of peace, knowing how much I am loved.

I’m done with trying to earn my way to His favor. In Christ, favor is already mine. I’m done with trying to measure up. And I’m ready to walk in the freedom I’ve been given.

By faith, we can walk confidently as doers and rest as beloved daughters, knowing that whether we do or don’t do, His love remains.

We can stop trying to prove ourselves because Jesus proved His love for us on the cross—what good news!
