Best Early Tech and Announcements From CES 2018 Unveiled

The biggest tech show this year has the tech community’s excitement through the roof with big reveals ranging from futuristic, autonomous vehicles to 120-inch 4K projectors during the CES 2018 Unveiled.

Latest Concept Cars

The CES 2018 Unveiled was teeming with concept vehicles equipped with the most recent or upcoming car technologies and state of the art features. Of course, we would probably be seeing a lot of these electric vehicles in the years to come as the car manufacturing industry slowly shifts away from diesel and gas.

For starters, the U.S.-based auto startup Byton made one of the biggest CES reveals with the launch of its electric car concept on Sunday. While it notably resembles the Tesla Model X design, the car definitely has what it takes to compete with the e-vehicle manufacturing giants in the market today. Here are some of its amazing features.

Aside from Byton, the South Korean car manufacturer Kia unveiled its very own all-electric vehicle. Dubbed as Kia Niro EV, it is equipped with a new Active Pedestrian Warning System that could alert pedestrians and cyclists if they ever come in its path.

Niro EV will be powered by a 150kW electric motor and a 64kWh battery pack with a range of 238 miles. Kia also announced that it will be equipping its select fleet of cars with Google Assistant this year and will be working on making its entire fleet of vehicles are connected by the year 2030.

Other updates from CES’ car scene include:

  • Toyota revealed its e-Pallete Concept Vehicle that looks pretty similar to a minibus that businesses could use as a shuttle, moving store, and many more.
  • Hyundai announced its partnership with Aurora to produce a Level 4 self-driving vehicle by 2021.
  • Nissan is making science fiction a reality with news of its so-called brain-to-vehicle technology that will prevent vehicular accidents by reading the brain waves of drivers and anticipating some safety maneuvers.

Computing Devices

Of course, the CES 2018 Unveiled is the best place to see all of the next-generation computing devices to take notice of. Here are some of the latest laptops, processors, and other computing gadgets that made their debut at the show or are set to be displayed in the coming days:

  • New Dell XPS 13 laptop which features USB-C ports, micro SD card slot, Infinity Edge display, and new colors.
  • HP showcasing its latest 2-in-1 Spectre x360 15 laptop that will hit the U.S. market in March this year.
  • Lenovo is said to be preparing a bunch of new Thinkpad notebooks that it will launch in CES this Tuesday. Better watch out for this one!
  • Acer gave its Nitro 5 gaming laptop AMD’s new Ryzen mobile CPU and upgraded its GPU to a Radeon RX 560X.
  • Acer’s Predator Orion 9000 will be on display at the CES 2018 event. It features an 18-core Intel Core i9 Extreme Edition processor and will cost $1,999 USD when it hits the market in February.
  • Acer also revealed a thinner Swift 7 Ultrabook that costs $1,699 USD.
  • Aside from laptops, Acer also announced that it would be equipping some of its select laptops with Amazon Alexa during the first quarter of 2018.
  • Asus Zenbook 13 has been revealed and will be available in the market during the first half of 2018.

Other Computing Peripherals and Techs

  • HP will be exhibiting some new monitors that have IPS LED backlit panels with Full HD resolution.
  • Intel unveiled its new 8th-generation of Core processors with AMD graphics.
  • Nvidia launched its so-called Big Format Gaming Displays (BFGD) initiative in collaboration with Acer, Asus, and HP. The initiative aims to develop a fleet of 65-inch, 4K 120Hz HDR displays fully integrated with Nvidia G-Sync tech and Nvidia Shield functionalities.
  • Asus revealed the new Lyra Trio multihub mesh WiFi system that will enable interaction between multiple Lyra hubs through wireless networks. The multihub also comes equipped with full Alexa support.

Smartphones, Wearables, and Headphones

The CES 2018 Unveiled wouldn’t be complete without the latest smartphone and gadget reveals. Now, if you’re looking for the newest alternative to your current mobile phone or just something trendy that you can wear every day, check this out:

  • Sony unveiled Xperia XA2, Xperia L2, and its latest premium smartphone, Xperia XA2 Ultra. The latter features a 6-inch 1080p edge-to-edge screen display, aluminum frame, and 23MP f/2.0 rear camera that supports both 4K video and 120fps slow-motion recording.

  • Asus revealed the Zenfone Max Plus that boasts of a 4,130mAH battery and Face Unlock feature. The phone itself can be used to charge other devices.
  • Aside from smartphones, yesterday Sony also introduced sport-focused headphones that are water resistant and come in a variety of different models.
  • Jabra will be releasing its latest earbuds, the Jabra Elite 65t and Elite Active 65t, that are equipped with Amazon Alexa.
  • On the other hand, Jabra’s competitor, JBL will be bringing Google Assistant to its Everest 710GA and Everest 110GA headphones.
  • Among the giants is the tech startup Nuheara who have announced its new earbuds, the IQBuds Boost and the LiveIQ, which can both be customized for a more personalized experience. It is said that Nuheara’s earbuds use a proprietary tech called Ear ID that can balance the speech a person hears and the background noise.

  • American technology company Garmin launched its first watch that will enable users to listen to music while running. The Garmin Forerunner 645 Music is packed with a GPS, Garmin Pay, and other features of the Garmin Forerunner watch series. If you don’t want to mix time and music, you can get a Garmin Forerunner 645 minus the Music.

  • If you want to keep track of your body’s UV exposure to the sun, you might want to try L’Oreal UV Sense. This wearable tech is so small that you can wear it on your fingernail. Plus, it doesn’t need batteries, and you can connect it to your phone through NFC.

Smart Home Appliances and Electronics

Want some new appliances or electronics for your home? Pick among the newest offerings that Samsung, LG, and other prominent electronics companies introduced at CES 2018 Unveiled.

  • Samsung revealed its massive 146-inch MicroLED TV called The Wall. It’s a modular TV that can connect with other screens for a bigger display!

  • If you don’t want your TV to occupy your whole wall, you might want to settle with Samsung’s first commercial 8K television, the 85-inch Q9S QLED TV. It will be launched later this year and is said to be equipped with an algorithm that will enable Q9S to learn and improve the 8K content it’s showing.
  • Of course, it’s a battle of the AI assistants, so it’s no surprise that Samsung equipped its appliances and electronics with its very own Bixby.
  • Sony also upped its game with its newest Bravia A8F OLED TV that can make HD SDR content closely similar to 4K HDR content.
  • Sony Ultra Short Throw Projector was also unveiled at the CES 2018 Unveiled. The $30,000 USD projector can cast up to 120-inch of 4K projection on any wall of your choice at a distance of 9.6 inches.

  • If you’re a fan of LG Electronics, you might want to check out the new LG OLED W8 Signature Series that can produce more vivid colors and are equipped with Google Assistant. Sony also unveiled the very first rollable OLED TV which measures 65 inches and sports a 4K screen.

  • Surprisingly, it’s Panasonic who revealed the first two OLED TVs that support HDR10+ HDR standard, the FZ950 and the FZ800. The panels are available in 55-inch and 65-inch models.
