In today’s evolving world, being Distinct is a key element which is in privation. Eventually it has some negative consequences such as occurrence of offences, fights for copyrights, plagiarism and much more. But another major negative consequence is increasing scarcity of innovation. Even Mr. Tom Peters once quoted “Remember my mantra: distinct… or extinct”. All of the above text simply enumerates that in today’s world, people, ideas and elements can only make a special place in people’s mind if they have something distinctive within them. Otherwise being just a blatant copy of an already existing element might give it earnings but will never give it true recognition and respect which is quintessential in the long term. There have been many such great examples of people, ideas and elements which have exhibited immense distinctiveness in their aura and has swept away the term “IMPOSSIBLE”. Some of such great examples include Apple iPhone, electric cars, Elon musk and much more.
One idea and technology that has emerged as a popular face of distinctiveness is big data. It has been around for a quite a period of time and has attracted individuals of different occupations towards it. Many people have left their existing jobs and professions just to learn more about big data and kick start a new career in big data. Because of this immense popularity, big data has been able to enlarge and enhance itself in such a diverse Field that job profiles in the field of big data have been expanding at an increasing pace in the past few years. Big data has been able to penetrate into almost all the industries and has made all the industries highly dependent on it. But a question that arises here is that what are the several distinct traits that big data possess because of which it has been able to not only make its mark in the world but has also gained the power and the charm to fascinate people just by its name?
As per my experience in the field of big data, I have discovered several traits which are distinct in their own respect which make big data inevitable. One of the major facets which I observed was that big data has a quite distinct advantage of ever-growing technologies in its field. It comprises of use of diverse software’s such as Python, R, SAS etc. It involves use of diverse algorithms to solve problems such as machine learning, regression, cluster analysis, descriptive and predictive analytics and much more. It also involves storage and querying of data using NoSQL, SQL and many other software’s along with special focus on visualization to make the data more interpretable. It involves collection of data from varied software’s such as Google analytics etc. In simple words, big data is the only field which makes use of all the above mentioned as well as many other aspects together. No other field is such diverse in regard to availability and use of resources. On the top of it, the kinds of technologies mentioned above are on a rise in terms expansion and addition and improvement in terms of enhancement and innovation.
Another major facet which I observed was big data although being a technical field comprising of technical aspects, has been able to develop a strong connection with the world of businesses. Business sector is such a field which is responsible for generating income and revenues and providing monetary help to governments, people etc. Hence the functioning of business is highly complicated yet quintessential. Big data has been able to pave its path into the intricate field of business. Big data has been able to upgrade itself according to the needs of the business and its different functions such as marketing, finance, human resource, operations etc. Big data has not only understood business and its fields but also modified and enhanced its working in today’s technological era. For ex. Earlier in market research data was collected majorly using surveys but now it is being collected through online websites and other devices using big data technologies such as Google Analytics. Big data understanding and innovation is not that complicated for businesses today as compared to Artificial Intelligence, Internet of things etc. Big data innovations and improvements have proven to be game changers for the whole business sector.
In the end, I would like to conclude that big data has certain distinct traits which are very difficult to adapt for other major technologies. Big data has been able to constantly work upon these traits and have gained the upper hand over other related technologies which clearly indicates a bright future for big data.
