DO AUTOMOBILES REALLY NEED TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM?

 A Tyre is a ring-shaped component that surrounds a wheel’s rim to transfer a vehicle’s load from the axle through the wheel to the ground and to provide provide traction on the surface traveled over. The materials of modern pneumatic tires are synthetic rubber, natural rubber, fabric and wire, along with carbon black and other chemical compounds. They are an essential part of an automobile as they help the car to move from still. Without Tyres a vehicle cannot move. Also like other products ,Tyres also have a definite life and they will also face wear and tear with prolonged use which is based on  various factors. Some of them are :

Improper Driving

If a person driving a car is driving on rough terrains then the Tyre’s, if he is braking too hard and on high speeds then automatically Tyre’s will wear and tear more quickly which will lead to early Tyre replacement.

Wheel Alignment

Alignment is a process in which all the Tyre’s of a car are adjusted to a particular angle so as the Tyre’s can move without any external Pressure. But if alignment is not done regularly it can lead to premature wear and tear of Tyre’s.

Non accurate Tyre Pressure

Accurate Tyre pressure is required so that vehicle can provide maximum fuel economy and comfort while driving. Non Accurate Tyre pressure can cause premature wear of Tyres and mechanical problems to the car.

A Tyre Pressure Monitoring System is an electronic system designed to monitor the air pressure inside the pneumatic tires on various types of vehicles. TPMS report real-time tire-pressure information to the driver of the vehicle, either via a gauge, a pictogram display, or a simple low-pressure warning light.TPMS can be divided into two different types – direct (dTPMS) and indirect (iTPMS).

Indirect TPMS do not use physical pressure sensors but measure air pressures by monitoring individual wheel rotational speeds and other signals available outside of the tire itself. iTPMS cannot measure or display absolute pressure values, they are relative by nature and have to be reset by the driver once the tires are checked and all pressures adjusted correctly.iTPMS are regarded as inaccurate by some due to their nature, but given that simple ambient temperature variations can lead to pressure variations of the same magnitude as the legal detection thresholds, many vehicle manufacturers and customers value the ease of use and tire/wheel change higher than the theoretical accuracy of dTPMS.

Direct TPMS employ pressure sensors on each wheel, either internal or external. The sensors physically measure the Tire Pressure in each tire and report it to the vehicle’s instrument cluster or a corresponding monitor. Some units also measure and alert temperatures of the tire as well. These systems can identify under-inflation in any combination, be it one tire or all, simultaneously.

A direct TPMS sensor consists of following main functions requiring only a few external components — e.g. battery, housing, PCB — to get the sensor module that is mounted to the valve stem inside the tire:

  • pressure sensor;
  • analog-digital converter;
  • microcontroller;
  • system controller;
  • oscillator;?
  • radio frequency transmitter;
  • low frequency receiver, and
  • voltage regulator (battery management).

NOW THE MAIN QUESTION ARISES THAT IS IT REQUIRED IN CARS OR NOT?

Under-inflated tires can be dangerous. They can cause strange, erratic drive patterns at high speeds. A Tire Pressure Monitoring system keeps an eye on tire inflation continually, for maximum safety in everyday driving situations.

Proper tire inflation also leads to maximum miles per gallon for a vehicle. Driving with under-inflated tires can burn a lot more gasoline on any given trip. Good tire pressure maintenance will lead to cost savings and lower fuel consumption.

Before tire pressure monitoring systems, drivers had to always monitor their tire pressure with manual gauges. That meant kneeling down to each tire, taking off the valve stem cap, and inserting the tire pressure gauge. With new tech tire pressure monitoring systems, this is no longer necessary.

A tire pressure monitoring system can add value to the vehicle, as a feature that saves on costs.

Because a tire pressure monitoring system helps with safety, it may lead to lower insurance premiums for your vehicle.

So as per the above Research and Findings it can be concluded that an Automobile with Tyre Pressure Monitoring System is a Boon for the Car owner .
