How to Personalize the Lock Screen in Windows 10 Mobile

The Lock Screen is the first thing that you see on your Windows 10 Mobile device. It has a nice appearance and acts a gatekeeper between you and your device. So, it is a required to customize it and make it more beautiful.

The operating system gives you full controls to personalize it your way. You can change the background image, control which apps can show notifications on it and after how much time will it appear.

This tutorial will show you how to do it step-by-step. Every option has its own use and settings.

How to Customize your Lock screen in Windows 10 Mobile

Like many other personalization options, this one also starts with settings. Follow the instructions as same.

1. On Start, swipe towards left to open the All apps list, and then select Settings. Alternatively, you can pull down Action center and click or tap on All settings (gear icon).

2. In Settings select Personalization and then select Lock screen to change lock screen background, notifications and the time-out settings on your Windows 10 Mobile device.

3. The first thing you will here is the Preview this shows how your Lock screen will look in real. You can customize it with these options-

Lock screen Background

It is the image that appears on the lock screen of your phone. You can change it as per your need.

Click or tap the field, a drop-down will appear with three options My picture, Sample images, and Bing.

Select one of them.

  • My picture: Use this option to use an image from the photos on the device. When you select it, a browse button will appear below it. Click or tap Browse button and select the photo to use as the background.
  • Sample images:  This option lets you choose from some pre-loaded images to set as lock screen background. If you want the default Windows background then select it.
  • Bing: It is the most interesting option to choose. it sets Bing image of the day as your Lock screen background. There is a new image daily if your device is connected to an internet connection.

Notifications on the Lock screen

Along with time, day, and date there are some notifications also on the lock screen. Basically, they are the notifications from the apps such as Phone, Messaging, WhatsApp, and Outlook. This is the default setting, you can change it also.

look at the icons under “Choose apps to show quick status.” To override an existing app click or tap on it and select a new app from the pop-up menu.

And to add a new app click or tap the plus icon and select an app from the list.

Screen times out after

It is the time after which the lock screen appears if you leave your phone ideal for some time. You choose an option from the following:

  • 30 seconds
  • 1 minute
  • 3 minutes
  • 5 minutes
  • 15 minutes
  • 30 minutes
  • Never

The never option turns it off. So, anyone can access your device without a PIN. The device will no longer automatically lock. It is recommended to set a short timeout period. A short period can increase the security of your data.

Double tap the navigation bar to turn off the screen

The last and least useful setting. If you want, you can enable it. It will do the same thing that you do by pressing power button shows the lock screen. But in this, you have to just double tap the navigation bar (bottom bar with home, search and back buttons).

It doesn’t find it useful. If you want you can give it a try.
