The PS4 emulator continues to improve and already supports the DualShock 4

Orbital is the name given to the first PS4 emulator, an interesting and complicated project that continues to advance little by little, and that recently has just achieved a very important advance: to support the DualShock 4. To build a house you have to start with the foundations, a complicated and unprepossessing first step that serves as a perfect simile that we can apply to the development of the first PS4 emulator. He is still not able to run any game and it may take several years until he is able to do it, but the important thing is that it is a project that is managing to get ahead regardless of how complicated it is. I know it may be difficult to understand, but just think about all the time that has passed since PS3 (2006) arrived at the market and assess the state in which the emulators of the console are. Yes, they work, but they are far from perfect. Well, PS4 arrived in 2013, so thinking about an emulator that can move its games sometime in 2024 does not sound so bad after all, and the announced PS5 backward compatibility with this console may facilitate Orbital's adaptation to the Next Generation. I remind you that this first PS4 emulator is available for both Windows and Linux and that it is possible to download an old version of Orbital through GitHub. Keep in mind that the download comes without binaries, and that to start doing anything you will have to build from scratch the three key elements BIOS, GRUB and QEMU. In the attached video you can see how the system recognizes the DualShock 4. You will also find a large amount of information that confirms something that many of us already knew: the enormous complexity that emulators have. It will be interesting to see the requirements that a fully functional PS4 emulator ends up having. As always happens with this type of software, its dependence on the processor will be very marked, which means that it will be necessary to have a multi-threaded CPU with a high IPC, exceed 8 GB of RAM and have a high-end graphics card compatible with Vulkan and DirectX 12.
