ZTE’s Nubia brand has unraveled its new gaming flagship smartphone in China called Red Magic 8 Pro and Red Magic 8 Pro+. Both of these are up for order in China and will go on sale from December 28th.

Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro / 8 Pro+ specs and features

The Nubia RedMagic 8 series share several similarities. They measure 163.98 x 76.35 x 8.9 mm. The vanilla 8 Pro weighs 228 grams while the 8 Pro+ is slightly heavier at 230 grams.

Both of these are powered by Android 13 based Redmagic OS 6.0. They offer dual SIM connectivity with 5G SA/NSA and dual 4G VoLTE. These have an in-display fingerprint sensor for fast and secure unlocking.

The Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro / 8 Pro+ comes with “Red Core 2” independent gaming chip. It brings improvements to shoulder buttons, game vibrations and sound effects. Notably, Shoulder triggers deliver 520Hz touch sampling. These come with X-axis linear motor and 1115K+1216 ultra-linear stereo speakers. These use Snapdragon Sound tech for up to 96kHz output at 48ms low latency.

The Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro and 8 Pro Plus boast a 6.8-inch OLED display that offers 2480 x 1116 pixels resolution. Their screen has 120Hz refresh rate, up to 960Hz touch sampling rate and 10-bit color depth. Their display supports 1440Hz PWM dimming, DC dimming, 100% DCI-P3 colors and up to 1300nits brightness. Notably, both of these have 1.48mm ultra-narrow bezels and boasts 93.7% screen-to-body ratio.

Powering inside these is an octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform with Adreno 740 GPU. It has have 8GB / 12GB / 16GB LPDDR5X RAM options and 128GB / 256GB / 512GB / 1TB UFS 4.0 storage variants. These Nubia Red Magic gaming phones come with ICE 11.0 magic cooling cooling system. It makes up of an in-built fan, full through air duct, first 3D ice-level dual-pump with 2068mm³ super large VC liquid cooling, graphene under the screen and up to 10 layers of cooling materials.

The Nubia RedMagic 8 Pro and RedMagic 8 Pro+ feature a 16MP under-display front camera. At the back side is a combo of 50MP (main, 1/1.57-inch Samsung GN5) + 8MP (120-degree ultra-wide) + 2MP (macro, F/2.4) lenses along with LED Flash.

The Red Magic 8 Pro houses a 6000mAh battery and allows 80W fast charging. The Red Magic 8 Pro Plus houses a slightly smaller 5000mAh battery but has support for 165W fast charging (0 to 100% in 14 minutes). These come with dual Smart PA, Stereo speakers and three mics.

Connectivity options like Wi-Fi 6E 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Dual Band (2.4/5GHz), Bluetooth V5.3, USB Type-C, NFC, dual band GPS/GLONASS/Beidou/Galileo and 3.5mm audio jack are present.
