Facebook confirms rollout of fresh business page design to everyone

We reported earlier how many people including us had started seeing a new, uncluttered layout of our Facebook pages. Since neither many users had received those changes nor Facebook made any official announcement, it looked like another experiment by Facebook. However, now the social media giant has revealed that it is indeed rolling out the feature to everyone. In fact, you must have already noticed the changes by now.

A Facebook spokesperson confirmed to the Techcrunch,

“We’ve introduced a new design for Pages on desktop to make it easier for people to learn about and interact with businesses on Facebook, including a new column for tab navigation and a more prominent call-to-action button.”

He further said that the company had rolled out the new design for Pages on desktop computers on August 3rd. The rollout is nearly 100% complete now according to the company.

The new changes, aimed at the desktop Facebook pages, give the feel of a website to Business pages.  Like in the testing phase, Facebook has done away with tabs under the cover pic and moved them to the left-hand side. These tabs, which include About, Photos, Videos, Posts, Events, etc, allow an easy navigation of the page.

More importantly, the desktop business page now has a highlighted Call to Action button below the cover picture. You can customise the bright blue button to encourage page visitors to take any action like Shop, Book an appointment, Watch Video, and others.

Overall, Facebook has removed the clutter and focussed on the information which a business may want to convey to visitors. There are no display ads on the right side further adding to the cleaner look.  It has also moved the profile picture to top left corner like a company logo. In this way, it no longer blocks the cover picture as well like before. The size of the cover picture remain the same( 828X315 pixels) so you need not make any changes.

Clearly, the idea is to not only make customers interact with a business page in a better way but also allow small businesses to operate their own mini website from Facebook itself.

However, it remains to be seen how much it will really affect Facebook in terms of ad revenues. As per the latest earnings report, Facebook reported 80% of total ad revenues ($6.28 billion) from mobile alone.

Perhaps that has led Facebook to completely do way with right bar display ads on desktop pages. Still, the new changes will undoubtedly help businesses present themselves through their Facebook pages in a more professional manner.
