Xiaomi to host launch event in India on March 20, expected to unveil Redmi 4A

Last year, Xiaomi introduced the Redmi 4A in China and we’ve since questioned when the smartphone will come to India. And now it seems that we might not have to wait much longer. The Chinese hardware upstart is hosting a media event in New Delhi on Monday i.e March 20 to possibly launch the Redmi 4 lineup in the country.

The phone termed as the successor of the Xiaomi’s 3s Prime will replace the said phone and bring some fresh feature additions we’ve been looking forward to. The launch speculations tied with Xiaomi relate to the massive success witnessed by Redmi Note 3, Redmi 3S and Redmi Note 4 smartphones in the country.

As for the specifications, Redmi 4A features 5-inch HD display with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution. The handset is powered by a 1.4GHz Snapdragon 425 processor coupled with an Adreno 308 GPU. It will offer 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, expandable up to 128GB via microSD. The phone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system (sadly, even though Nougat has been available for months now) with MIUI 8. It is also supported by a battery of 3120 mAh capacity. The smartphone aims yo provide long battery life to mobile-savvy users, which is the key attraction of the device.

Under the camera department, the Redmi 4A presents a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie shooter. The rear camera of the device is equipped with features including PDAF, LED Flash and f/2.2 aperture. It is also capable of capturing full-HD videos at 30fps The device further claims to click high-quality pictures from the front camera as well. It will be launched in two colour variants– Gold and Rose Gold.

The hybrid dual SIM phone is packed with all connectivity features including 4G with VoLTE, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and a microUSB port. Sporting a metal-clad unibody design, the device also includes a 2.5D curved glass for added protection.

Xiaomi missed MWC 2017 as it did not have any new devices to unveil. Also, the Chinese giant has recently accepted that it has grown too fast and needs to buckle down. With the launch of their latest budget phone in one of the largest smartphone markets, Xiaomi is now looking to court more users as well as revenue. Redmi 4A is sold in China for CNY 499 (approximately Rs 4,933), although there was no say on the price and availability in India until date. The phone is expected to debut with an under 10,000 price tag.
