Uber announces API partnerships to help drivers file their taxes

Cab aggregator Uber has announced a slew of API partnerships with the intent of helping drivers file their taxes. The partnerships will let Uber drivers file their taxes based upon ride information from the company itself.

The company first announced its Driver API in October as a way for developers to cater to Uber drivers rather than the passengers. The company already had a platform focused upon creating applications for riders.

So what the driver API does, is that it provides information regarding driver profiles, rating, pictures, trip details, payment information and so onwards. This information can then be used to come up with all sorts of applications that can then prove handy to drivers.

Work is already apace upon using this information and leveraging it in interesting new ways to create possibly unique experiences for drivers.

In October, Uber product manager Chris Saad had said:

By leveraging driver profile data, trip data, earnings, and more, you can create new apps and services that make driving with Uber more productive and fun.

Sears for example, is using Uber’s trips endpoint to give drivers loyalty points and discounts while financial software provider Stride is incorporating trips and payments endpoints to help drivers identify possible deductions at the end of their trips. Along the same, Uber has announced a brand new integration that aims to help drivers make their tax filings.

Thanks to an integration with Intuit’s TurboTax software, Uber drivers can simply import their Form 1099s and fill it with all their rideing information. Assuming that this is their primary source of income, they can easily pay their taxes while also bypassing the need to input information manually.

Drivers can also access tax preparation service H&R Block. Thos who are on the iOS platform can use the company’s TaxEdge app, and import their 1099 data and work through their return with a tax expert through their phone. There are other integrations too and they will allow Uber drivers to fill their taxes on time like responsible citizens.
