Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event is shifting back to San Jose after a long stint at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The move appears to be a reflection of how the event, and by extension Apple itself, has evolved over the past 10 decade.
Announcing the news the company said:
28th annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) — hosting the world’s most talented developer community — will be held at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose. The conference, kicking off June 5, will inspire developers from all walks of life to turn their passions into the next great innovations and apps that customers use every day across iPhone®, iPad®, Apple Watch®, Apple TV® and Mac®
The move appears to have been brought on by the fact that WWDC, is no longer what it once was — in a positive way. The event has grown along with Apple and attracts the best of the iOS’s developer community. Not all of these developers have created Clash of the Clans and as such, living in San Fransisco for the duration of the event can be pretty expensive.
Shifting the event to San Jose will allow more developers to come and attend the event in person. Of course, there will still be live-streams for folks who are unable to attend the event in San Jose. Meanwhile, the changes will go into operation with this year’s conference that will take place between June 5-9, 2017. Registrations for the same is slated to open from March 27th.
What’s more, San Jose is closer to Apple’s own Cupertino headquarters. How is that useful? Well, the event also hosts over one thousand Apple engineers who will be working in tandem with the developer community to make the event a success. As such, it will be easier for Apple employees to make their way to the San Jose venue as compared to San Fransisco.
Apple says that the event will still host 5,000 developers and the tickets will have the same price — that is, $1,599. Pricey, but the events have traditionally had enough appeal to get developers. Interestingly, Facebook is also moving its F8 developer conference to San Jose. Meanwhile, if interested in attending the event in person, do make sure you put in your name for a seat at the WWDC at the earliest. Demand usually exceeds supply and tickets are decided on a lottery basis.
