With a succesful comeback launch, SpaceX is rolling again

And finally, all those prayers, all those efforts, all the science and all the resources expended by Spacex have yielded fruit. The company has managed its first successful launch since the September mishap that saw the Falcon 9 carrying an internet.org satellite go Kaboom! while still on the launchpad. Well, with today’s mission a success, SpaceX is back in business again.

The launch, which took place from the Vandenberg Air Force Base and involved a Falcon 9 rocket, took place without a hitch. The rocket took off at the scheduled time and delivered 10 Iridium Next satellites into orbit. What’s more, it was followed by the successful landing of the rocket, upon SpaceX ‘s Drone Ship, Just Read the Instructions. Yes, that is actually the name of the drone ship.

Meanwhile, SpaceX had a lot riding on this particular launch. The September explosion not only shook customer faith in the company, but also managed to completely derail the it’s schedule. And considering the razor thin margins SpaceX operates with (which do however, give it an edge in business) the financial impact of losing a Falcon 9 was felt as well.

With the company rescheduling and postponing all the launches until it figured out what led to the explosion, 2016 went from being a successful year to being a fiasco. Which was sad really, because the company had just started doing well and had even managed to show small operating profits in the two immediately preceding years.

Meanwhile, today’s launch has seen SpaceX come back on track. The company will now attempt to make up for the time it has lost. With over $10 Billion worth of pending orders from a variety of high profile clients including the likes of NASA, SpaceX is probably raring to get to work.

And then, there is also the 4,000+ satellite plan that when — and if — successfully implemented, will see the earth covered in a blanket of Internet coverage. The company hopes to use the revenue derived from that particular project, to fund its drive to set up a civilization on Mars.

So you see, SpaceX has its plate very, very full with plans that are extremely ambitious. And with todays launch successful, the company can finally start to deliver.
