Here is your first look at HMD Global’s flagship Nokia 8 and its camera capabilities

This year started off with the return of an iconic brand, which saw its first Android release in the form of Nokia 6. But the Finnish giant, now launching devices through its brand-licensee HMD Global, is gearing up to show off its might at the Mobile World Congress towards the end of February in Barcelona.

And here’s our first look at the brand’s upcoming Flagship smartphone Nokia 8, which was showcased by chipmaker Qualcomm at CES. The videos of the same have now surfaced online, and one would definitely be impressed by the Camera capabilities of this device. Though press had been instructed not to capture photos of the said display but GSM Arena did act sneakily. The publication got its hands on a video of the phone.

In the video attached below, you’ll notice that two similar smartphones (allegedly Nokia 8s) have been placed on a trembling station. One of these smartphones is powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor whereas the other one on the left is powered by the old Snapdragon 821. The video particularly shows off the image stabilization capabilities of the newly released chip.

Though there is no visible branding on the smartphone but the camera bump shown at the end of the video is immediately recognizable. It is the same Carl Zeiss PureView camera lens used by Nokia during its Lumia days. The overall design aesthetic of the smartphone, on the other hand, feels pretty similar to the unibody metal build of the Nokia 6. This gives us hope that the smartphones displayed at Qualcomm’s CES’17 booth were of the Finnish giant HMD Global (Nokia, in disguise!)

As for rumors of specifications for the Nokia 8, it will most likely debut in two different variants. One of them would the premium flagship device with the Snapdragon 835, 6GB of RAM, a 12 MP front shooter, and a 24 MP OIS + EIS primary camera. The front of the device will lack buttons but include dual-speakers instead. It will also come in two whopping internal storage options — 64 GB and 128 GB, which can be expanded via the MicroSD card slot.

The lower-end Nokia 8 will, however, feature a less-than-impressive spec sheet than the aforementioned. It will be powered by the SD 821, coupled with 4 GB of RAM. The camera included on this variant hasn’t been specified in the video but it won’t feature OIS as capable as the flagship device. There is also the possibility that this variant will feature a plastic built as compared to the premium metal one.

Currently, no more information is available for these alleged Nokia-branded smartphone devices. Stay tuned for more updates before the upcoming MWC conference in Barcelona.
