Being one of the widely popular messaging apps with a strong billion active users, WhatsApp is continually looking to further enhance the user experience with the addition of new features. And before heading for a global rollout, the company hands down these features to the beta testers across platforms.

Thus, to further add on to the messaging experience, WhatsApp is now looking to introduce a much-requested feature. The company plans to introduce the ability to recall sent messages before they’re read by the user receiving the message (Awesome, ain’t it!?). This feature has been spotted by Twitter user Wabetainfo, known to report accurate feature updates, in the latest WhatsApp beta (version #2.17.1.869) for iOS devices.

As seen in the video attached above, the Twitter user has showcased how one can revoke messages sent using WhatsApp’s iOS client. It can be accomplished by long-pressing a particular message (the one you want to revoke) until you see the pop-up floating menu with a cohort of options.

Now if you notice closely, the video shows that a new ‘revoke’ tab has been added to the menu and tapping the same will revoke the message and make it disappear it from the chat window. It even works for quoted text but the message’s disappearance from push notifications is still unknown.

In addition, WABetaInfo in another tweet mentioned that the company is also working on a message editing functionality — which might come handy for typos. This feature is currently disabled and a proof for the same hasn’t been produced by the tipster so we’d recommend you to take these speculations with a grain of salt (for sure!)

All of the aforementioned features — revoke and edit — are currently under development and are hidden in the iOS beta code. You can gain access to the same if you want to reverse engineer and tinker with the application’s code. But we’d recommend you to patiently wait for the official beta (or public) release and not try to drunk text your exes.

In addition, the same Twitter user had previously also suggested that WhatsApp is also testing a ‘Status’ feature similar to Instagram Stories within the messaging app itself. Users will have the option to share ephemeral photos or videos, similar to Snapchat, of their daily activities with their contacts with ease. This will further be another fender bender for Snapchat, which gained popularity among the youth because of its quirky filters and timed messages.
