Stargirl season 2 is set to premiere in the summer of 2021, and many fans are anxiously awaiting its release. The series is created by Geoff Johns and originally premiered on the streaming service DC Universe before moving over to The CW where it was renewed for a second season. There are a vast array of characters to keep track of in Stargirl, so here is a recap on the character Shiv, or Cindy Berman.
Who is Cindy Berman?
Cindy Berman is a popular, yet mean student at Blue Valley High who greets Courtney Whitmore on her first day. She attempts to convince Courtney to join the cheerleading squad, but Courtney turns down the offer. Cindy shows her true mean self several times throughout season 1, especially against Yolanda who used to date her current boyfriend Henry King Jr.
At one point during season 1, Yolanda is running for student body president, when Cindy decides to send the entire school a sexy photograph Yolanda had sent to Henry King Jr. when they were dating. It ruins her reputation and changes her relationship with her parents for the worse.
Cindy isn't just mean when it comes to other high school students, either. She takes mean to a whole new level when she transforms into Shiv.
Who is Shiv?
We later learn in the series that Cindy has an alter ego who goes by Shiv. Shiv possesses all kinds of talents and attributes that make her a fantastic supervillain, including a high degree of athleticism, an expert grasp on science and chemistry concepts, and apparent martial arts training.
Shiv also possesses regenerative abilities, making her heal quickly and easily from all different kinds of injuries. What makes her most lethal, however, is the blades that she conceals by her wrists.
Cindy is the daughter of another supervillain Dragon King, who is shaping his daughter to take over the family business of being evil. Cindy and Shiv become a major nemesis to Courtney and Stargirl in and out of school. At the end of season 1, it doesn't appear that this will change in the upcoming season.
Who is Dragon King?
Aside from being Cindy/Shiv's father, Dragon King is a scientist who runs various biological studies on himself and his patients. Dragon King is a hooded figure for most of the first season, likely due to his reptilian face, presumably from a past experiment.
Dragon King and Cindy regularly get into arguments, and at one point, Dragon King locks Cindy up to punish her for disobeying him.
It's clear here that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and that Cindy and her father have quite a bit in common.
