The Friday Roundup – Isobuster 5.1 Update and Zoom Shots

Isobuster 5.1 Update Released

This week I recieved an email from Peter at Isobuster annoucing the latest release of the program taking us to version 5.1.

Now right off the bat here let me make a few things really clear.

First up I have had Isobuster on my computers probably for over ten years now and it is one of those programs that you don’t really need until you need it and when you do…. you REALLY need it!

It is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to recovering data off just about any kind of media from CD’s, DVDs’, Blu-ray, Hard rives, SSD’s, Flash Drives or whatever.

If disaster has struck and the media hasn’t been run over by a truck then with Isobuster you have a pretty good chance of getting your stuff back.

The second thing I have to mention is that Peter always posts the details of each new update on the Isobuster website so you can see what’s new.

This time there are 5 new features, 26 improved features and a total of 9 bugs squashed.

I have read them all and can safely say I have absolutely no idea what any of them mean!

The good news is that I don’t have to know. All I know is that it works.

What is a Zoom Shot and When You Should Use One

This is another excellent resource article from Studio Binder on the subject of Zoom shots.

Like many of the more uncommon shots Zoom shots walk a very fine line between creative genius and downright cheesy!

In light of that it is probably best to know what you are doing and why when it comes to them.

Speech To Text Auto Captions – PowerDirector

One of the more common developments over the past year in the world of video editing has been the introduction of “Speech to Text” modules allowing for the automatic creation of subtitles.

Before these features were introduced let’s face it, creating subtitles was a long and arduous affair.

Historically PowerDirector has probably had the best subtitling features available and now they too have hooked into a Speech to Text service so you can make subtitles automatically.

Right now they are only offering English, Traditional Chinese and Japanese but more languages will be added later.

How to Make Subtitles in Minutes – Wondershare Filmora

Somewhere else around here I did a post on the new automatic subtitle module in PowerDirector so I guess in the interests of fairness I should include the one in Filmora!

So here it is although I might add that the Filmora module offers Text to Spech as well.

Do This to Edit Videos Faster! – Video Editing Tutorial For Beginners

I will be the first to admit that the video below is a kind of extended promotion of the Movavi video editor!

However the information is pretty good so I think we can all forgive them a little shameless self promotion.

Make Your Voice Deeper in Audacity – No Plugins Required

This is a very effective method in Audacity to give your voice a bit more in the bottom end.

It covers two methods, changing pitch and boosting the bass.

Just remember that in the world of audio a little goes a long way.

How to Revive a Dead YouTube Channel

If you have abandoned a YouTube channel and are looking to bring it back from the dead or you have hit the wall with regards to channel growth then take a look at this.

Cinestyle Color Correction, Corel VideoStudio Ultimate 2022

This is a recent post by Gripps which is very specific to users of Canon cameras and Corel VideoStudio.

If this isn’t you then you can safely scroll on… BUT!

Given the state of play with regards to consumer level video editors these days it is making more and more sense to start shooting your video in more professional formats.

Previously these formats were not catered to by editing software at this level mainly because of the need to process them before color correcting and grading.

However most video editors these days are capable of handling them so it is an area worth taking a look at.

Grab Attention By Using This Easy Smooth Zoom Effect! – Davinci Resolve

A lot of people these days are creating videos for YouTube with a single camera, single angle set up.

That means from start to finish it is always the same shot.

YouTube audiences are used to this so there is no real problem with it.

This method results in videos that are a series of jump cuts and again, YouTube audiences are used to it so agin, no problem.

However, one way of lifting the inherently repetitive nature of endless jump cuts is to use zoom cuts to break this up a bit.

Sometimes you can zoom in to make a point or sometimes you can zoom in to just add a little interest to things.

You can even take this a step further as shown in the video below by crafting your zoom cuts to suit their purpose.

How to Create 3D Title Text Effect in Filmora 12

Another interesting new feature that was added to Wondershare Filmora recently was the ability to create 3D Titles.

Keep in mind that Filmora is still what we would call a basic video editor even though it packs a bunch of advanced features.

In keeping with that market position the 3D titles are based on presets that allow for a small degree of customization.

It’s good for what it is but don’t go expecting a full-on 3D Title creation tool .

How Fun Storytelling Generated 96,000,000 of Views on YouTube

If you are at all serious about succeeding on YouTube then you probably need to watch this video all the way through.

I say all the way through because it is a live stream and it is about an hour long.

There are still numerous YouTube “gurus” advising anyone who will listen about how to spend hours on keyword research, crafting your titles, filling up all the space for tags and a bunch of other old school stuff.

The new reality is that although these things still need to be done the REAL meat and potatoes of YouTube is all about engagement.
