Messi joins PSG after several negotiations. There had been significant stipulation as regards which team would Lionel Messi join. He got three different offers after he left FC Barcelona. However, in the end, he has decided to move to France.

After a tearful press conference held on Sunday, Messi and his family arrived in Paris on Tuesday. This is what confirms the end of his association with FC Barcelona and that Messi joins PSG.

Leaving The FC Barcelona

This summer, Messi was supposed to sign a new deal for five years which would extend his twenty-one-year stay in Barcelona. Regardless, FC Barcelona announced that they couldn’t complete the deal due to financial and structural obstacles. This meant that Messi remained a free agent.

Even though the Argentinian soccer player wished to remain in the Barcelona club and did everything he could, this was not possible. After his contract with the Catalan club expired, the soccer star agreed to cut his wage up to fifty percent.

Regardless of this, he could not remain in the FC Barcelona because the Spanish league’s financial regulations wouldn’t have been met with this arrangement. The fact that FC Barcelona is in debt for more than 1.2 billion euros further complicated the possibility of the Catalan club to keep Messi as a player for them.

On Sunday, during a tearful press conference, Lionel Messi expressed his sadness because he had to leave Barcelona:

“This year, my family and I were convinced we were going to stay at home; that’s what we all wanted more than anything,” said Messi.

“We’d always made this our own, we were at home. We thought we would be staying here in Barcelona. But today, we have to say goodbye to all of this.”  cnbc.com 

The club announced his departure from FC Barcelona last Thursday. This occurred on the same day that he returned to Catalonia after his holidays after Copa America ended. When he announced that his 21 years playing for FC Barcelona came to an end, he got a standing ovation which made him break into tears.

Joining The Paris Saint-Germain

Even though Lionel Messi received several offers to join different clubs, one stood out. In the end, he decided to join the Paris Saint-Germain club. The club offered several things to the Argentinian soccer player to guarantee that he would take the deal.

Among the different things that were offered to the thirty-four-year-old star, the ones that stand out the most to attention are the fact that he would receive a yearly payment of thirty-five million euros each year after tax also, that this would be a two-year contract with a possibility to renew the contract for a third year.

Meaning that he could stay playing for the Paris Saint-Germain club for a third season if that is what he desires. The person who spoke about these deals requested anonymity to discuss Lionel Messi’s contract. This was before he signed the contract and before he announced it officially.

Jorge, Messi’s agent and father, could confirm that his son finally decided to move to PSG. He told as much to the reporters on Tuesday at the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport. Later that same day, people saw Messi arriving at the same airport with his three children and wife. At that airport, they boarded up a private jet.

Now that they confirmed that Messi would join PSG, he will potentially play and win major trophies. One of these could come from the Champions League. We understand that this was a critical factor in Messi’s final choice to move to Paris.

Another thing that we believe was a significant factor for Messi to join PSG is that he will reunite with Neymar. It is with Neymar that “he won two La Liga titles, three Copa del Reys and the Champions League during their time together at Barcelona.”  cnbc.com 

Moving Forward

Over the last decade, the directors of the PSG club have been able to transform the club. This happened due to the investment of the Qatari sovereign. There were only a few clubs that we’re able to finance a deal with Messi.

The PSG decided to offer the six-time world player of the year a deal to sign with them once his contract with Barcelona expired. Later, Lionel Messi decided to accept the deal to join the PSG.

The arrival of Messi will give PSG excellent attacking opportunities since he will be linking up with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Kylian Mbappe is the French world cup winner. Neymar is Brazil forward.

The PSG hopes that these three players who join their team will help improve the team’s chances to win more cups. The PSG hopes to regain the French title, which they lost last season to Lille. Also, the PSG hopes to conquer the Champions League.

Pochettino could use a 4-3-3 formation. Therefore, he would deploy Messi on the right, Mbappe in the middle, and Neymar on the left. However, Pochettino would need to decide how to use Mauro Icardi and Angel Di Maria better. Both players are also Argentinian.

The UEFA’s Financial Affair Play provided some flexibility to the rules because of the pandemic. They decided these changes to stem losses. All in all, there are great chances for the PSG to win more trophies now than ever. Lionel Messi’s choice to join their team further encourages them to aim as high as possible.
