Screen sharing feature on WhatsApp coming to Android phones

The ability to share screens on WhatsApp is coming to Android phones. According to WABetaInfo reports, WhatsApp beta for the Android 2.23.11.19 update is allowing some beta testers to try out the Screen Sharing feature.

This new feature is similar to screen Sharing feature available on platforms like Zoom. Once available to you, you will see a new icon located in the call control view shaped like “mobile phone with an arrow pointing out of the phone”. Once you tap it, a prompt appears asking if you want to “Start recording or casting with WhatsApp?” alongside a disclaimer that the company will have access to any passwords, photos or payment details you display. If you are ok with this, you can click “Start Now”. Everything displayed on your screen will be recorded and shared with the recipient.

The WABetaInfo report also states that this screen sharing feature may be unavailable on old versions of Android; may not work in large group calls, and the recipient may be unable to get the content of your screen in case they are using an outdated version of WhatsApp.

Screen sharing is only available to select Android beta testers right now but should roll out to more users in the coming weeks.
