Microsoft has announced the general availability of its AI-based Intelligent Meeting recap feature for Microsoft Teams Premium customers. Following its initial launch in October last year, the feature has been rolling out gradually throughout May, with additional functionalities to be introduced over the coming months, as stated in a recent Microsoft blog post.
According to Microsoft, 56 percent of Teams meeting attendees find it challenging to summarise the key takeaways from their discussions, while 55 percent express uncertainty about the subsequent actions required after a meeting concludes.
The Intelligent meeting recap feature aims to address these issues by incorporating an AI virtual assistant into each meeting, providing participants with a comprehensive overview and automatically capturing essential aspects of the discussion. Essentially, it acts as a personal note-taker, even for absent attendees.
Accessible through the new Recap tab in the Teams calendar view, the Intelligent Recap compiles all meeting artifacts in one place. Users can watch the meeting recording directly from the Recap page or choose to view it in Microsoft Stream.
To facilitate efficient navigation within the meeting recording, personalised timeline markers, visible only to the individual user, highlight the sections where they joined or left the meeting, their name was mentioned, or their screen was shared. Additionally, mentions of the user’s name can be found in the @Mentions tab on the right side of the page. Below the video, users will discover additional tabs that allow them to jump to specific moments within the recording.
The rollout of Intelligent Recap began in May, with ongoing feature updates planned over the coming months. Initially available in English, additional language support is scheduled to arrive in fall 2023. Microsoft aims to generate meeting notes with AI, including potential follow-up tasks and timeline markers, ultimately developing chapter-like divisions within the recordings.
By leveraging AI capabilities, Intelligent Recap provides users with a comprehensive summary of their meetings, enabling efficient catch-up and coordination of next steps. Located within the Teams calendar and chat, the new Recap tab presents AI-powered insights such as automatically generated meeting notes, recommended tasks, and personalised highlights. This empowers users to quickly locate the most crucial information, even if they were unable to attend the meeting.
With the Intelligent Recap feature, meeting participants can focus on the discussions at hand rather than the task of note-taking. AI-generated meeting notes offer key points and takeaways, automatically created and powered by GPT technology. Additionally, AI-generated tasks and action items are suggested to facilitate seamless follow-up.
