Snapchat’s latest update has continue to generate outrage among users as more than 600,000 people have signed an online Petition calling on Snapchat to revert its update back to the original design.

According to many users, the upgrade which was rolled out last week has a new interface which is difficult to navigate. However, the upgrade was aimed at separating “media content” from that of “friends” among an array of other interface changes.

Snapchat Stories, which are videos and photos shared among users that vanish after 24 hours, also now appear with individual Snaps and direct messages.

“I might start using Instagram Stories now,” Ashley Vasquez, a 21-year-old Snapchat user who is a senior at the University of Maryland in College Park, told CNN.

A Change.org petition titled “Remove the new Snapchat update” authored by Australian user, Nic Rumse has amassed more than 590,000 signatures by Monday afternoon.

“Many users have found that it has not made the app easier to use but has in fact made many features more difficult,” the petition reads.

“There is a general level of annoyance among users and many have decided to use a VPN app to go back to the old Snapchat, as that’s how annoying this new update has become.

“This petition aims to help convince Snap Inc to change the app back to the basics, before this new 2018 update”.

Other users began sharing a workaround for reversing the update by deleting the app and turning off automatic updates before redownloading it, but Snapchat advises against it.

In November, Snapchat said it was working on a major redesign of its flagship app to attract new users. Even CEO and founder Evan Spiegel has acknowledged in the past that Snapchat can be hard to understand.

The redesigned app was rolled out to 40 million users as of last week, and all of its users will have it by the end of this quarter. Snapchat currently has 187 million daily active users. It does not disclose it’s total user base.

The update has outraged millennials and celebrities alike, with many protesting that the new interface is cluttered and difficult to use.

Many have turned to Twitter to express their displeasures at the latest upgrade.

According to a user Grayson Dolan on Tweeter, “I’ve had the Snapchat update for a few days now and still haven’t figured out the equation. I’m so confused. Do any of you guys have the answer key?”

Celebrity Christine Teigen also took to Twitter to express her ill feelings towards the upgrade, “I’m seeing this same comment so often. I liked that you guys felt like we were friends. I’m sad it doesn’t feel like that anymore. How many people have to hate an update for it to be reconsidered?”

In response to the backlash, a Snap spokesperson told CNN: “Updates as big as this one can take a little getting used to, but we hope the community will enjoy it once they settle in.”
