Where Can You Put Speakers In Your Car?

Almost every Vehicle made has some type of audio system in it – from the most basic AM/FM radio to full-blown automotive theater for the passengers. The location of speakers is often dictated by the structural design of the vehicle, and although these may or may not be optimally located, they typically have to fit where they can.

The first improvement that you can make is to upgrade from the factory speakers to higher quality aftermarket models. Even though they will likely still fit into door kick-panels or rear decks, better fidelity will inevitably result from better speakers. They are the simplest to install and require no modification of your interior space.

Another upgrade is to move up to Component Speakers, as opposed to the more standard coaxial design. Component speakers have a separate woofer/midrange and tweeter, and thereby provide better imaging than a coaxial configuration. Although a bit trickier to install, it’s worth it considering the additional performance that will be gained.

If you don’t want to alter the interior of your vehicle, then using the existing locations for speakers is all but necessary. Many improvements can still be attained as outlined previously while maintaining the factory cosmetics for the most part. However, if you are not adverse to a little custom work, you might be able to take things to the next level.

The sky’s the limit when it comes to custom automotive audio. Speaker enclosures can be crafted where none exist, openings can be scaled to accommodate larger drivers and together with digital equalization, your soundstage can be honed to perfection. Depending on the level of customization and the resources you are willing to invest in your sound system, you can end up with a few minor modifications that yield great results, or transform your vehicle interior into a concert on wheels.

At Communications Center, we feel that defining what exactly you want your car to sound like is the first step. Very high quality audio can be attained without changing the structural aesthetics of your interior by employing proper equipment. The overall experience is the sum of all its parts – head units, amplifiers, equalizers, and speakers. Installing larger or better speakers without an adequate amplifier to power them is counterproductive. On the other hand, a high end set of component speakers with a suitable amp will go a long way!
