Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg will meet with prominent Conservative Media members and leaders this week to discuss recent reports that the site deliberately suppresses conservative news in its Trending News section.
A Facebook spokesperson said that this group of “conservative thought leaders” will meet with Zuckerberg on Wednesday. The group includes Media pundit Glenn Beck, Arthur Brooks of the American Enterprise Institute and Zac Moffatt, co-founder of the tech firm Targeted Victory and Mitt Romney’s former digital director.
For their part, the Conservative Media Members say they’re eager to meet with Facebook and hear the site’s side of the story.
“While they are a private business and I support their right to run it any way they desire without government interference, it would be wonderful if a tool like [Facebook] INDEPENDENTLY CHOSE to hold up freedom of speech and freedom of association as a corporate principle,” Glenn Beck wrote on his Facebook page.
Despite the multiple reports of Facebook news bias from Gizmodo, Zuckerberg says that the site has found “no evidence” that it’s true. However, the social media giant could be forced to publically prove that assertion; a U.S. Senate committee has opened an inquiry into the matter.
