Magic Leap has only sold 6,000

“of its augmented reality glasses”
Magic Leap has sold only 6,000 copies of its augmented reality glasses in recent months. That is much less than the initial expectation of 100,000 glasses. Partly due to the low sales figures, many dismissals would have fallen in the company.

It is about the sales in the first half year that the glasses were available. This appears from a report that The Information has seen. The company sells the first prototype of the glasses , the Magic Leap One Creator Edition, for 2300 euros. Magic Leap initially told investors it was expecting to sell a million glasses, but eventually had to adjust that figure to 100,000. Partly because the sales figures are so bad, Magic Leap had to fire ‘dozens’ of employees in different departments. The company should also have taken all kinds of other measures such as a stop on business trips. Magic Leap spent between $ 40 and $ 50 million a month in 2018.

Magic Leap has been troubled by setbacks for years, and has a history of creating unrealistic expectations. The company worked for years in the deepest secret on glasses, the first images of which were very promising. Partly as a result of this, the mysterious company received billions from investors, and gained a lot of brand awareness in Silicon Valley. When the first real images of the glasses came out a year and a half ago, they turned out to be disappointing .
