Activision Blizzard earns more in-game purchases despite fewer players

Activision Blizzard has earned more money from in-game purchases, such as dlc, lootboxes and microtransactions. This figure came to about one billion dollars. There were fewer Monthly Active Players in this first quarter, in which no major games were released.

The publisher reports that the $ 1 billion in in-game purchases, which are listed under the heading of in-game net bookings , is a record for a first quarter. The revenues from in-game purchases are not explained in more detail per game. The total revenue from digitally and physically sold products and services, such as licensing revenues and merchandise, came to $ 1.38 billion, while in the same quarter a year earlier still generated $ 1.20 billion.

Activision Blizzard reports that it had a total of 374 million monthly active players. This number was still at 431 million players in the first quarter of 2017. The lion’s share of the 374 million players that were active on a monthly basis was accounted for by the mobile division, King. The games of this division, such as the games from the Candy Crush Saga franchise, accounted for 285 million players; in 2017, there were 342 million players. Activision’s games had 51 million monthly active players in the quarter and 38 million at Blizzard. At Activision this amounts to a slight increase, while this figure at Blizzard slightly decreased compared to the same period in 2017.

Activision Blizzard’s net quarterly revenue came to $ 1.97 billion, while that amount in the first three months amounted to $ 1.73 billion a year earlier. Of the current quarterly sales, product sales amounted to $ 720 million, while in the first quarter of 2017, this category still accounted for $ 509 million. Net profit came to $ 500 million; that was 426 million dollars a year earlier.
