by Joyce Kilmer
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a Tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
This is the first poem I memorized by heart. I can clearly remember the time my teacher assigned this to us to memorize for an oral recitation. At a young age, this was quite challenging as opposed to learning ABCs, 1 2 3 songs, nursery rhymes, educational children jingles, and some pop tunes. Looking back, I believe the plausible reason it seemed challenging was due to intimidation. The structure is a lot different and it did not come with a fun melody for easy memorization. Don’t let this happen with your kids. Help them master Trees by Joyce Kilmer while making this easy Paper Tree Craft.

Easy Paper Tree Craft Instructions
Step 1 – The Base
Cut the printed letter on construction paper.
Step 2 – The Trunk
Get the brown construction paper. Place the printed letter on top of the brown construction paper; trace the lower part of the base; cut the tracing; and then glue the tracing over the base.
Step 3 – The Leaves
Get the green construction paper. Place the printed letter on top of the green construction paper. Trace the upper part of the base this time; cut the tracing afterwards; and then glue the tracing over the base.
Step 4 – The Fruits
Get the red construction paper. Using the hole puncher, create little circles. Make as many as you like provided the number will not over power the paper tree itself. Glue the circles after.
Making this Paper Tree Craft while memorizing the poem should help your kids learn it quicker. Enjoy!
