Who is Calling?

Original Article by TechSling Weblog:

Picture the scene; you are sitting at home, and your phone suddenly begins to play a tune. It’s late, you have no idea who is Calling you because you don’t recognise the Number. You don’t want to answer because, as we just mentioned, it’s late and you don’t know who the number belongs to. You simply turn down the volume so the noise doesn’t bother you anymore, and you wait for the call to end.

Is this a scenario you’ve been in before? It is very likely to be the case.

The chances are that you waited until the call ended and then you picked up your phone and stared at the number, trying to figure out who it could be. The curiosity may have got the better of you, and you may have returned the call, or you could have just tried to forget about it.

Unknown Callers can be annoying, because for starters, it’s likely to play on your mind. What if it is a close friend with a new number? What if it is something important? Of course, you could have answered the call, but it might have been a nuisance caller, and that would have ruined your evening.

You can imagine the annoyance such a scene brings.

The answer? Reverse phone lookup.

What is Reverse Phone Lookup?

In case you have no idea what this is, basically, when you see a number repeatedly calling you, but you don’t want to answer it, you can make use of this lookup facility to find out who the number belongs to. This is a genius idea in many ways, because from there, you can choose to either answer the call the next time, return the call yourself, or block it if it’s someone you would rather not hear from. You basically keep control in your hands.

Basically, looking up the phone number gives you choice and control, and takes away that piqued curiosity. You can also look at this from a safety point of view – if someone is persistently calling you and you don’t want to talk to them because of a private matter, the ability to block them is vital. This means you know you’re not blocking someone important by accident, and you don’t have to worry about them trying to contact you again.

Upsides

Public information searches have their haters for sure, but there are many upsides to being able to access information in this way. Whilst many people think this is to our detriment, e.g. it takes away our privacy, it can be turned on its head and viewed as a safety net at the same time.

How many nuisance callers do you get in a week? How many cold callers from companies trying to sell you their newest product? These types of callers can be extremely persistent, so being able to identify them and block them, is a very useful tool to have in your calling armour, as well as giving you a peaceful evening, free of cold callers.
