What is Amazon Prime Day 2020?

Amazon Prime Day is one of the biggest retail holidays of the year. Now in its sixth year, Amazon Prime Day is a 48-hour sale that gives Prime members exclusive access to sitewide discounts. Prime Day deals include price drops on everything from the Echo Dot to the MacBook Air. It's become a massive juggernaut for Amazon and although Amazon Prime Day is still expected to occur this year, it will take place at a different time.

Amazon Prime Day started in July of 2015 as a way to celebrate Amazon's 20th anniversary. For 24 hours, Amazon slashed the price of hundreds of items. The event was a hit with Prime members and since the first Prime Day, Amazon has grown its deals-a-thon into a massive Black Friday like event.

The first Amazon Prime Day was celebrated in nine countries including the U.S., UK, Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, and Austria. Since then, Amazon Prime Day has expanded in both duration and popularity. In 2017, Amazon Prime Day lasted for 30 hours. In 2018 it expanded the holiday to 36 hours and in 2019 it lasted a full 48 hours. It ran from July 15 through end of July 16.

When is Amazon Prime Day 2020?

Although there's no official date yet, Amazon Prime Day 2020 will likely occur in August, according to recent reports. The new date is due to the coronavirus pandemic. If Amazon Prime Day occurs in August, other retailers may have sales in July. Each year, Amazon's competitors also try to undercut Amazon by announcing summer sales of their own. Look for counter deals from the likes of Best Buy and Walmart.

Will coronavirus affect Amazon Prime Day 2020?

The COVID-19 coronavirus is having a huge impact on the tech industry. Numerous trade shows have been cancelled and production of some tech items has come to a screeching halt. Amazon itself has had trouble keeping up with consumer demand as shoppers turn to Amazon for all of their shopping needs.

Recently, Amazon announced it was temporarily suspending Amazon Shipping, a service that competed with the likes of FedEx and USPS. According to the Wall Street Journal, Amazon is halting its shipping service so that it can direct all of its resources to fulfilling the current orders of its consumers.

What countries will celebrate Amazon Prime Day this year?

The first Amazon Prime Day was celebrated in the U.S., UK, Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, and Austria. Last year, Prime deals were held in 18 countries including the United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Spain, Singapore, Netherlands, Mexico, Luxembourg, Japan, Italy, India, Germany, Austria, France, China, Canada, Belgium, and Australia.

Amazon Prime Vdeos And Amazon Prime Movies

Amazon Prime Video is the streaming-video component of Amazon Prime. Like Netflix and Hulu, Amazon Prime offers unlimited streaming of tens of thousands of movies and TV shows. Unlike its two competitors, however, Amazon Prime also allows à la carte rentals and purchases of its content. You can also chose to subscribe to Prime Video only for $8.99/month.

Amazon Prime hosts a number of original series, including hits like Mozart in the Jungle, Transparent, and The Man In The High Castle. Users can also stream older HBO shows, such as The Sopranos, Eastbound & Down and the first season of Veep. Like Netflix, new shows are added continually.

With a Prime membership, you also get access to the ala carte Amazon Channels subscriptions, where you can pick and choose the networks you want, and not pay for anything you don't watch. Subscriptions include HBO, Starz, Showtime, PSS Masterpiece, Magnolia Selects, Britbox and Acorn TV.

Can I use Amazon's streaming video services without an Amazon Prime subscription?

Yes, but you will have to buy or rent each individual piece of content you want to watch. The prices on this content can vary dramatically, from $2 for individual TV episodes to $30 or more for entire seasons. Or you can sign up for Prime Video on a monthly basis for $8.99.

Will a Prime subscription give me access to every streaming video on Amazon?

No. Amazon offers only certain TV shows and movies for unlimited streaming. For brand-new movies and recently broadcast episodes of TV shows, for example, you'll have to dish out money for each individual piece of media. Amazon marks its unlimited streaming shows and movies with a Prime graphic across the top of the box art; everything else is pay-as-you-go.

Where can I watch Amazon Prime Video?

Amazon Prime Instant Video is available on PCs, Macs and Linux computers, as well as all modern and last-gen game consoles. All iOS users can download an Amazon Prime app, but Android users are not so fortunate. The only Android devices that support Amazon Video are Amazon's own Kindle Fire tablets and Fire TV devices.

The service is available for Roku set-top boxes, Apple TV, and most smart TVs, but not for Google Chromecast. Amazon has also unveiled Fire TV Edition: a line of TVs that runs with the same interface as a Fire TV Cube or Fire TV Stick. An Amazon Prime membership isn't necessary to use the TVs, but could help users get the most out of one.

Getting an Amazon Prime Video Free Trial

Like many other streaming services, Amazon Prime Video offers a free trial. And since Amazon Prime Video is a part of the broader Amazon Prime service, you'll really have a lot to enjoy during your free month of service.

To get Amazon Prime Video for free for a month, just head to Amazon.com and sign up for a free trial of Amazon Prime.

On top of being able to enjoy Amazon Prime Video on all of your devices, an Amazon Prime free trial will give you free two-day shipping on lots of items in Amazon.com's web store, access to a solid amount of free streaming music, and a whole lot more. For a full list of Amazon Prime's benefits, including all of the ones unrelated to streaming video, check out Amazon's website.
