In Detail: CAD Package Reviews (Part 1)

Personally, I jump around CAD packages, sometimes to move to the best one for the job, or purely moving on, and needing a fresh new interface. Either way, here is my experience of the programs I have interacted with. None of the reviews are paid promotions.

Google Sketchup 8
Despite the age of the software, it is a reliable and powerful program. In a less positive light, some of the colours selected by the developers, on the default style font are rather unsettling, as when a stark white is chosen for one face of an object, Sketchup 8 proceeds to colour the other an off yellow, which is certainly not visually pleasing. However, the excellence and supreme ability overwhelm the small downsides and difficulties.

Trimble Sketchup Make 2016
Continuing the theme of reliable software on from Sketchup 8, but instead under the administration of Trimble, as opposed to Google. I use this software as my main architectural package, and I am pleased with it's performance. Much the same as Sketchup 8, but with a far more modern interface.

Trimble Sketchup Free (Browser Based)
I find it rather useful having a browser-based version, accessible from virtually anywhere with a connection to the internet. Having free Cloud Storage to boot is a rather pleasant bonus, and the refreshing and clean appearance of the actual CAD tool itself works well. Aside it's many positives, I find that a simple operation, saving the file in particular, takes a far more lengthy amount of time then many feel is necessary. In terms of interface, I would want a little more organisation, and a more effective layout.

Autodesk 123D Design
123D Design will always have a place in my heart, as this is the first proper 3D Design Software I ever used. The snazzy look of the software itself is always refreshing, but as with many interfaces the tools need to be quicker to change between, as they are powerful yet precise.
