In the lockdown period of last two months, as daily life has taken a complete turn due to the Covid-19 outbreak and resulting un-bearable efforts. Local and state governments have taken unrivalled steps to slow the spread speed of the virus through stay-at-home orders and social distancing efforts.

At any other period in time, such drastic measures would have certainly crushed the economy in all of its level but fortunately, technology and new invention are in our hand. Thanks to information technology, mobile technology, computers and Internet solutions, millions of people can effectively do their job remotely from home complying with social distancing measures and work life balance. Naturally, the same cannot be applied on each and every type of work, but many different industries can suffer the consequences if we do not have the technology tools at our practice.

That’s the scenario that plenty of people find themselves in today, many being asked to work from home for the first time in their lives. Many of our friends from software and IT Industry, have been doing this from over a period of time. If you’ve never in this situation of work from home, never mind the expectation may seem awful or invincible.

We GrabGyan want to help you with some smart and helpful tips, not only for what you can do but also with what you shouldn’t. We hope that this little contribution from us can share some ideas and tips which can help you gear up the challenge and to maintain work life balance.

Do’s: 

1.  If at all possible set up a dedicated workspace or workstation. we’ve seen numerous people using their dining table, kitchen table or any other mode as a provisional Office. A dedicated workspace is obviously the ideal choice but instead of that, consider converting a spare room or the unused space into a temporary office.

2. Establish boundaries with yourself and your family, friends and room-mates. It’s important to ignore distractions during office hours and maintain a daily practice. While working from home, this can mean being careful about setting a daily routine for yourself and follow it.

3.  Be disciplined!! Make sure to your family members under the same roof, they know that you’re doing important office work and unless it is not important not to be bothered during office hours.

4.  Invest in accessories that truly makes your job easier or more comfortable.

5.  Maintain regular contact with your office mates and team. Since working away from your physical workplace, you can use modern digital tools will help you keep in touch with peers and staff such as Google Meet, Skype, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Workplace by Facebook.

6.   Make your workspace as enjoyable a place to be as possible. Try put some pictures and photos of family and friends on your desk, a notice board, and even a houseplant or some greenery, what makes you productive and happy.

7.   Don’t limit yourself to the 9 to 5 , Work when you’re most productive and most important don’t forget to take regular breaks

8.  Use some time to enhance up your skills: This lock-down time can be a great opportunity to polish or diversify our skills. Fortunately, there are many options for free learning to take advantage of ; Youtube, Udemy, Udacity, Coursera, edx and etc.

Don’ts: 

1.  Purchasing a new computer or expensive furniture if it isn’t absolutely important. With the world in unrest right now, even those with the most stable of jobs may be finding it difficult to be content. Instead, think in terms of what your job actually requires you to do. For example, if you have some generalized office work like web browsing, Pdf files reading, working on Microsoft word, excel and email as a job profile’s daily routine, you don’t need the latest hardware computer or dedicated fast computer to get the job done.

2.  Just because you’re away from the office, do not treat this as a vacation and snack all day.  Stand out from the crowd. be a leader of own.
